The WTM Travel Perspective programme, sponsored by global distribution system Sabre and part of the content to support the new The Travel Tech Show at WTM, continued its presence with this Travel Perspective session on Wednesday, focusing on Google & Travel.
Mark Frary, co-founder of Travel Perspective, said: “It is exciting to see all of the strands of social, technology, mobile and blogging come together under the single banner of the Travel Tech Show at WTM for the first time. The WTM Travel Perspective sessions will run over three days and there is more space than ever

before for people to listen to the latest thinking from Facebook and Google.”
This Google session began by asking how are it’s own travel products evolving and how are its innovations enhancing the travel customer’s experience? How can travel companies and tourism organisations take advantage of search, Google+, YouTube, Maps and the like?

Speaker Sarah McDonald, Head of Travel at Google, works with the UK travel business to get the most out of the web and she took centre stage to talk about the online customer journey for travel. She highlighted that 90% of consumers now move between multiple devices to accomplish their goals, including planning a trip. She continued by describing the 5 stages of travel – dreaming, researching, booking, experiencing and sharing – and discussed how companies can teach and inspire through media.
The internet is the leading source for travel planning info with over 85% of people using this source. Search is the gateway – and McDonald asked can you be found? She concluded: “Reach your customer at every stage of the new customer journey across multiple devices ensuring that they have a one single, seamless experience across online and offline channels.”
