Virginia McKenna OBE, with her son Will Travers OBE, collect an award on behalf of the Born Free Foundation.
Fiona Jeffrey OBE, accepts an award on behalf of charity Just a Drop, which saves lives by delivering clean safe water to some of the poorest and remote regions in the world.
The Born Free Foundation, Just a Drop and SKAL International were all honoured for their outstanding work at this year’s awards, hosted by WTM.
The World Tourism Awards, which celebrated its 16th anniversary this year, saw charity leaders recognised for their outstanding contributions to the travel industry. Virginia McKenna OBE and son, Will Travers OBE, accepted an award on behalf of the international wildlife charity, the Born Free Foundation. The charity was recognised for ‘its impact on wildlife conservation by supporting projects that protect animals, as well as teach local communities how to live peacefully with

these animals, thereby ensuring the enjoyment of wildlife in their natural habitat for generations to come’.
Founder and Chair of Just a Drop, Fiona Jeffrey OBE, received an award for ‘her philanthropic vision in launching an international travel industry charity that in just 15 years has provided life sustaining clean water and brighter futures for an estimated 1.5 million children and their families in 31 countries worldwide’.
Skal International, a global professional organisation for travel and tourism leaders, was presented an award for ‘its leadership in encouraging responsible tourism practices in the travel and tourism industry through its
Mok Singh, Immediate Past President of SKAL International, accepts an award for SKAL International’s Sustainable Tourism Award programme.
Sustainable Tourism Award programme as well as being a role model of supporting local communities following natural disasters’.
The awards, sponsored by Corinthia Hotels, Delta Air Lines, New York Times Global and Reed Travel Exhibitions, were established to recognise the extraordinary initiatives by individuals, companies, organisations, destinations and attractions for outstanding accomplishment in the travel industry, and congratulations must go to all these worthy 2013 winners.
