WTM GLOBAL AWARDS 2013 And the winners are…
Every year, the World Travel Market Global Awards for outstanding contributions to travel and tourism are presented at WTM. Selected WTM Official Media Partners, which represent key travel industry media around the world, have the opportunity to recognise the companies and individuals who have made the greatest contributions in their region over the last year. Three nominations from each media partner were judged in September by a panel of three, including an independent body, a representative of WTM and the relevant media partner. The awards were presented in the Travel Tech Theatre on Monday 4 November to:
Brazil – Empetur (Official media partner: Mercado & Eventos) Awarded for the creation of new tourism jobs and opportunities in the state of Pernambuco, North East Brazil, and for launching new international flights, linking to destinations in the Americas and Europe. Italy – Vittoria Cisonno (Official media partner: L’Agenzia di Viaggi) Awarded in recognition of this entrepreneur’s promotion of wine and culinary tourism in Puglia, Italy, organising events, press trips and workshops, founding Tirsomedia specialising in food and wine consultancy. Spain – PortAventura Fundació (Official media partner: Hosteltur) Awarded for developing its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, promoting various initiatives to facilitate access to leisure for people at risk of social exclusion & inclusion of disabled staff as part of its workforce. Canada – G Adventures (Official media partner: Canadian Travel Press) Charity working with organisations to provide tangible benefits to their communities via the Planeterra Foundation, which was set up in 2003 to empower local people to develop their communities. (For more information click here)
Middle East – Rezidor Hotel Group (Official media partner: TTN Middle East) The group’s Responsible Business Action Month, started in 2003, has run the Box Appeal for 6 years – the community fills boxes with everyday items which are then distributed by employees to those in need, 10,000+ boxes in 2013. Travolution/Tech – Ralf Usbeck (Official media partner: Travolution) Awarded in recognition of his technological innovation & creativity through Traveltainment, dominant in Germany and neighbouring markets, and for creating a new data standard for selling travel online with Peakwork. China – Wanda Hotels & Resorts (Official media partner: China Business Network) Awarded for the development of 34 5-star luxury hotels in China, with the aim of developing over 100 hotels by 2015. (For more information click here)
Portugal – DouroAzul (Official media partner: Publituris) Awarded in recognition of its expansion in the Douro Valley region and Porto, it is now the leading river cruise operator in Portugal and one of the top 10 river cruise operators worldwide. (For more information click here)
UK – Barrhead Travel (Official media partner: TTTG UK) Awarded in recognition of its expansion and commercial success, the Scottish travel agency, Barrhead Travel, was named Travel Agency of the Year at the TTG Travel Awards 2013. (For more information click here)
India – Sarovar Hotels & Resorts (Official media partner: Trav Talk India) Awarded for the development of mid-market hotels in India, the company is now the fastest growing hotel management company in the region with 60 properties, aiming for 65 by 2013 and over 100 by 2020. Russia – Persona Grata (Official media partner: Tour Business) Awarded in recognition of its support for Russian tourism over 15 years, offering legal assistance to tour operators, travel agents, transport enterprises and hotel chains, launching a ‘Travel Expert’ consultancy. USA – Collette Tours (Official media partner: Travel Weekly US) In recognition of his charitable work, CEO, Dan Sullivan, launched the Collette Foundation in 2007, working in 20 countries, aiming to link employees, partners & customers to enrich the lives of the world’s children.
