New extension for Cheltenham museum

The new extension to Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum has officially opened under its new name, The Wilson Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum. The extension has been designed by Berman Guedes Stretton and its galleries have been designed as flexible spaces capable of exhibiting the museum’s collection of Arts and Crafts Movement work, interactive shows for families, and a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions from national and international touring arts organisations.

The building is naturally ventilated with low energy LED lighting, thermal mass and

Water saving award for Whitbread

Whitbread has become the first hospitality company to achieve the Carbon Trust Water Standard. The standard is awarded to businesses

that are able to demonstrate that they have a robust approach to water measurement and management, and achieve year on year reductions in use. Whitbread has installed a variety of water saving technologies across its hotels and restaurants including replacing all shower heads in Premier Inn hotels with aerated low-flow versions, introducing low flush toilet cisterns and taps across its hotel and

restaurant estate as well as installing grey water and rainwater recycling technologies in new developments. It has also invested in real time water

metering technology in its hotels and restaurants to model water consumption at individual sites and identify leaks early. The company aims to achieve a 25 per

cent reduction in water use by 2017 (from a 2009 baseline) across its hotel and restaurant estate. The target was recently revised upwards after the business achieved its original goal of a 15 per cent saving four years early.
