A range of floor coverings combining design with functionality were required for the upgraded Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre, a flagship venue for the National Trust.

Flooring for all occasions

LOCATED at the heart of the historic 2,000 acre Stackpole Estate in Pembrokeshire, the National Trust’s Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre is a multi-purpose venue catering for residential school parties taking part in activities such as canoeing, rock climbing and walking, private hire as well as conferences, meetings and events. The venue has recently been extensively

ungraded to provide spacious and stylish accommodation with modern facilities. Stackpole has received a four star rating from Visit Wales and provides a total of 144 beds in a variety of rooms ranging from single and doubles to bunkhouse style. Other facilities include a theatre and licensed bar for 200 people. Stackpole is a flagship centre for the

trust, so when it came to floor coverings design was an important consideration. But this had to be combined with practicality to withstand heavy use by school parties, wheeled traffic as well as members of the public. Working with an architect from the National Trust, Forbo Flooring Systems provided floor coverings for a variety of areas within the centre. “We had to ensure we provided the

correct product for each area. And as well as functionality, it was important that the colours and design for each flooring product was just right to create an attractive scheme for the client,” says
