Lockers get in shape
THE Fitness Society gym in Berkhamsted attracts members of all ages and abilities approximately 2,000 of which use the gym each week. Members were becoming increasingly
frustrated with the apparent lack of locker space. The staff received regular complaints because even during quiet periods three quarters of the lockers were occupied. The problem was caused by people using lockers as personal storage space even when they weren’t in the gym. As a consequence, staff were spending a lot time sorting out locker issues. The Fitness Society decided to remove
all coin and key-operated locks and replace them with keyless locks from KitLock. KitLock 1200 is a durable electronic lock designed for securing lockers and fitted in place of a standard cam lock. Access is gained by entering a four-digit code on the keypad. The code locks and opens the locker just once, before being erased. The locker then remains open until another member uses it. A KitLock can also be opened using a
technician code, which opens the lock without erasing the user code and is useful if members forget which locker they are using and staff need to access several lockers to find the right one. The Fitness Society has programmed
the locks to automatically open after four hours to ensure there are always enough lockers available. KitLock digital keypad locks are easy
to fit, taking just a few minutes to remove the existing cam lock from the door and make an additional top fixing. A KitLock 1200 can perform up to 50,000 openings on two AAA batteries.
