in conversation with beautymatters

Noella Gabriel, Director of Product and Treatment Development at Elemis, tells us more about her life’s passions in and away from the beauty industry.

I ended up in the beauty industry because… Of my passion for the skin and body and understanding how it functions. In my early days I opened up my own salon and after completing a nutrition and beauty course, my love of the industry began.

If I wasn’t in the beauty industry I would… Be a classical singer.

The best thing about my job is… The people I work with.

An average day for me is… I would start with getting up early for a morning swim at 6.30am and then take my daughter Kate to school before heading to the office. As soon I arrive, I have a meeting with my PA to discuss the day’s schedule and then touch base with the sales team, highlighting the daily targets and do a pep talk to get everyone ready for the day. I would then have a meeting with the New Product Development team which can take about two-three hours, finalising the product developments of 2015 and new formulations. I could then be on an international conference call for PR with a journalist, training the Elemis therapists on new products and developments or be in a strategy meeting in the afternoon for our retailer to premium accounts. My direction runs across many divisions, so no two days are ever the same.

My ideal weekend would be… Taking a walk on a Saturday morning around Alexandra Palace in North London and then having breakfast with Kate. I enjoy swimming, so I will swim a few lengths in the pool in the afternoon before settling down in the evening in front of the TV.My guilty pleasures are The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, The Graham Norton Show and The Jonathan Ross Show – I love them all!

My favourite book is… I love reading biographies. The most recent one I have read is Chris Evans’ which I really enjoyed. I also love history books and The White Queen by Philippa Gregory was very good.

My favourite film is… Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The most famous person I have met is… Annie Lennox. I loved her tenacity and zest for life. She is a strong, warm woman and was absolutely lovely to meet!

My favourite part of the world is… Hong Kong and New York.

I could not live without… My daughter Kate, my guitar and my Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream.

My favourite professional treatment is… Elemis Biotec – the unique fusion of technology and touch. I believe this will bring the best of both worlds and continue to excite the client.

When growing up my role model was… Audrey Hepburn.

I would like to be remembered as… A fair director / manager, a good mum and always game for a laugh.
