Steve Diprose, VP of Quartz Business Media, speaks to C&M and explains why he is relishing the opportunity to help create an industry-focused networking event as the Cleaning Show moves to London in 2015.


Steve Diprose has been run- ning very successful trade shows – at home and abroad – for a number of years, and has proven himself to be one of the UK’s leading experts, delivering innovative and successful events in themost testing geographical regions and economic climates. In April this year, when the British Cleaning Council an- nounced its intention to relo- cate the Cleaning Showto London in 2015, Diprose took control of developing,man- aging, and directing the new event. “I have enjoyed, over a


number of years, taking shows that have become rather stagnant and breath- ing new life into them – and this is the challenge for the Cleaning Show,” said Diprose. “Year on year the Cleaning Show in Birming- ham continued to decline, with a number of major cleaning industry brands and numerous key buyers and specifiers removing it from their calendars. The British Cleaning Council identified this late last year, and set about assessing the views of the industry at large. This was supported by similar re- search amongst CSSA mem- bers which showed that the main buyers from the largest contract cleaning companies no longer saw the Birming- ham show as a priority in their busy schedules. what they would like to see happen, the answer came back loud and clear – broaden the reach of the event…and move it to London.”


London calling


To this end, the organisers announced that the 2015 Cleaning Show will take place at London’s Excel from 10-12 March. But this is just the beginning. “If the cleaning industry is


to achieve the level of profes- sionalism and public recog- nition it deserves, it needs to demonstrate its strength and unity through a well-run, high profile event,” continued Diprose. “The days of a small show at the NEC no longer reflect the dynamic industry we represent. The Cleaning Show 2015 – using a proven formula I have employed be- fore – will be a major leap forward for this market, heralding a coming of age. We are already in advanced discussions with four major brands looking to sponsor the event, and bookings from exhibitors – new and old, large and small – are strong. Most importantly, conversa- tions with the major contract cleaning companies – the majority of which are based within a one hour train jour- ney of London – confirm that visitor interest has definitely been rekindled.”


More than just a show


“Attendees at the Cleaning Show 2015 will witness the transformation of a tired in- dustry exhibition into an in- dustry-focused networking event,” said Diprose. “We al- ready have details of addi- tional networking events to run alongside the show, a number of social events making the most of London’s attractions, a parallel pro- gramme of lectures delivered


in two theatres, VIP areas to ensure visitors – domestic and, thanks to the attractions of London, international – get the most from their visit, a number of specialist ‘zones’ on the show floor, together with awards and competi- tions. And that’s just the be- ginning. We are also in discussions with organisers of other key industry events who are looking to co-locate with the Cleaning Show, fur- ther ensuring that this will become the showcase and meeting place for the UK’s cleaning industry. Frankly, I can’t wait!”
