sponsored a lecture on rhino conservation at the Royal Geographical Society in London, with talks from TV adventurer Bear Grylls and South African vet Dr. William Fowlds, star of ITV1’s Safari Vet School. South Africa has been gripped by a massive surge in rhino poaching. In 2007, 13 rhinos were poached; this year it is estimated that the number will be 900. They are sought for their horns which, according to some Asian countries, have healing capabilities – although science has proved that the horn carries no medicinal value. Mantis' educational arm, Worldwide Experience, has launched a kids' competition to highlight the plight:

held its Luxury UK Roadshow in October, visiting 200 agents in London, Chester and Winchester. Chairman of Tourism Russell Harrigan and Director of Tourism Sharon Flax-Mars were joined by Ginny Hawksley, Lorna Burgess and Myrvina Jeria from the BVI Tourist Board’s London offi ce, along with representatives from a range of resorts. The team updated the trade with the destination's latest news and trade initiatives. At each venue awards were
given out to those tour operators and agents who have aided the islands' success. Outstanding Support, 2013 winners were: ITC Classics, Caribtours, Cream Travel, Turquoise Holidays, Carrier, Yacht Connections and Travelabout. All attendees were entered into
a prize draw and winners included Carolyn Lodge, Carolyn Lodge Travel who won nights at Scrub Island and Long Bay Beach Club, and Karen Parrett, Quality Travel, who won stays at Biras Creek and Oil Nut Bay.
