MORNING GLORY BY ALAN ORBELL “It was dark on arrival at the hilltop Sunset Beach on Mahé but as we sipped cocktails at the bar, the sound of the ocean lapping the shoreline below was a great accompaniment to a pre-dinner drink. There were glimpses of the
surf shining in the moonlight but the next morning was a revelation. The sun shone on a spectacular view of turquoise sea and the sparkling yellow sands of the cove below, all enhanced by the sound of the tide and birdsong. What better way to enjoy a
bowl of fresh tropical fruit and a coffee for breakfast? It is these kinds of gentle moments that help make a Seychelles stay so memorable, perhaps the more so seeing locals assume this to be the only way of life imaginable. But for visitors, the perfect
vistas and leisurely lifestyle are just two reasons of many a holiday there is so special.”
We’ve also created more tailor-made island-hopping itineraries and the honeymoon and wedding market has been strong throughout the year with good early bookings for 2014 as well. “Looking forward, clients are ever more price conscious and the biggest deterrent to future growth is the lack of good fl ight availability as well as realistic air fares, particularly during key travel periods.” If Only’s Marketing Manager, Tom Higgins, sees the Arabia stopover options as a positive and is fi nding the ‘excellent fares and well-timed fl ights’ of Emirates and Etihad becoming more popular. “The Seychelles has performed
steadily for If Only... in 2013, showing an increase on 2012, and based on our 2014 bookings to date we anticipate continued growth. Perennial favourites Hilton Labriz and Constance Ephelia are always requested, but we have also seen a rise in the number of enquiries/ bookings for villa accommodation. Most of our growth has come from two/three centre Seychelles trips and we proactively promote Seychelles island hopping. “If there is any lack of product in the Seychelles it is in the all inclusive offering. Compared to our other Indian Ocean destinations, the limited all-inclusive options are comparatively expensive – this makes it a bit more diffi cult for agents (and for If Only...) to switch sell from other destinations such as the Caribbean.” For Indian Ocean specialists,
“We’ve also created more tailor-made island- hopping itineraries and the honeymoon and wedding market has been particularly strong”
