Former staff perform management buy out of Powabyke, to take control and offer stability for retail By Jonathon Harker

KEITH PALMER and Frank Curran have formed new company Powabyke UK to exclusively take over the range of electric bikes and manage sales, marketing and distribution in the UK. The duo – formerly Powabyke staff –

negotiated a deal for a management buyout of Powabyke’s product range with former owner Eveport. Palmer and Curran have a combined total of 25 years of experience in the electric bike industry and will be bringing Powabyke UK to the NEC Cycle Show this month, where the new Powabyke X3 range will be showcased. Palmer, co-director of Powabyke UK,

also owns WAW Associates and conv-e. He said: “Frank and I have been through several buyouts of Powabyke, reporting to various changes in directors. We are now pleased to take control of Powabyke and offer the stability that has been sadly missing. “Many existing and past Powabyke

dealers have known us since the start of e-bikes in the UK and we have an extensive network across the country. With over 40,000 Powabykes sold in the last 12 years, we are delighted to be making new sales whilst offering the best possible technical and service back up which has always been a priority.” Fellow co-director Curran added: “I am delighted to be a 50 per cent owner of Powabyke UK Ltd, now taking the Powabykes forward, as I have put a great

Lapierre gets electric at Eurobike

LAPIERRE INTRODUCED the €4,200 Overvolt electric mountain bike at the Friedrichshafen show. The Overvolt is a 27.5 wheeled, 140mm travel electric mountain bike based around the brand new Bosch 400W pedal-assist motor. There’s a hardtail version too, with the difference around €1,200 euro.

Using a high single pivot with linkage

driven shock, the ride shouldn’t feel too dissimilar to that of a proper mountain bike, BikeBiz was advised. The weighty components are kept low on the frame to maintain a low centre of gravity and a series of three sensors track cadence, speed and pedal force, with input readings taken some 1,000 times per second. The battery is removable for off the bike charging and should assist the rider for 30 to 90 kilometers, depending on usage. www.lapierre-bikes.co.uk
