Taiwan taste

By Louis Allen, who was a guest of boutique properties Home Hotel and Hotel Quote in Taiwan’s capital.

Taiwan has a great range of home-grown hotels, and is adding boutique properties to the mix that make an ideal base for small incentive groups (there is even space for associated meetings). First up, in Xin-Yi district, the heart of

Taipei, Home Hotel is amid shopping malls, cinemas, a 24-hour bookstore, Taipei’s convention centre and the Taipei 101 tower. In line with its Made in Taiwan philosophy, Home features Taiwanese design and guest ameni- ties, plus speciality brands for room products. On the third floor, Marsalis Home is a jazz

bar with a grand piano and drum set as décor. There is also Study Room, which is used for meetings (up to eight people). There are 113 guest rooms in four sytles, all with free high- speed wireless internet. Hotel Quote is close to the night markets

and Taipei Arena, used for both sports and entertainment. With the motto “Stay understated”, the hotel has a ground-floor bar/restaurant with a waterscape feature and pressed-metal wall panels. Mirrors make the interiors look more

spacious on each level and in the 64 guest rooms (six styles). All guest rooms have free wireless internet access and high-end sound system, coffee makers, work desk and a Japanese toilet that automatically lifts its lid when you open the door. On the second floor,HQLounge mimics

a home kitchen. Guests can help themselves to drinks, fruit and snacks, newspapers and magazines, extra towels and bath products. They can also use computers, and an alcove meeting room seats six. Guests can buy from the Quote collection of soft toys, pillows, umbrellas and other items. www.homehotel.com.tw www.hotel-quote.com
