Products Lift trucks New fleet for gas specialist

A world specialist in the supply of atmospheric, process and specialty gases has begun taking delivery of state-of-the-art forklift trucks after signing a major new contract with Yale Europe Materials Handling and the Forkway Group. Air Products currently operates around 60 trucks across 27 sites in the UK and over the next couple of years they will be replaced by a range of Yale trucks capable of meet- ing the company's challenging requirements. Forkway has worked with Air Products for nearly a quarter of a century, and according to the forklift company’s MD, Martyn Fletcher, its partnership with a company at the forefront of materials handling technology was a key factor in securing the deal. Already delivered are 10ton and 4.5ton diesel trucks; three-wheeled compact electric models; a pedestrian operated stacker. Most recently, four of Yale’s popular 2.5ton Veracitor VX diesel trucks were delivered to the Air Products chemicals site in Clayton, Manchester two of which were modified by Pyroban to operate in hazardous areas. In the coming months Air Products will also take delivery of a number of raised cab VX models as part of a mixed fleet. Forkway works with Yale's exclusive UK dealer Briggs. Linde’s new EVO Counterbalance (2-5 tonne) range is said to provide excellent fuel efficiency, thanks to an all new common rail diesel engine with variable displacement pump. This new engine delivers its maximum output at a lower rpm and initial customer tests of the 5.0 tonne

truck revealed that this was up to 28 per cent more fuel efficient than the previous model and was said to be outperforming the competition. The range is fitted with ergonomically designed seats which deliver increased width, greater weight capacity and adjustable suspension to minimise the effect on the operator. Also as standard is the inclusion of electronic curve assist safety technology. This safety feature works by actively reducing traction speed depending on steering angle. The new Linde counterbalance EVO range has been designed to exceed the new EC stage IIIB emissions legislation, which came into force in January. Linde Material Handling www.linde-mh.co.uk

iron parts used in their construc- tion are recycled, the trucks deliver obvious environmental benefits. Flexi ECO AC models come with an identical warranty but cost some 30 per cent less than an equivalent all- new model.

Flexi ECO AC trucks are available through Flexi Narrow Aisle and authorised distributors only. Used Flexi’s selected to undergo the ECO AC ‘makeover’ process are completely stripped down. All original parts are

graded and either disposed of or reworked for onward sale to the global spare parts market. All the cast-iron and steel com- ponents of the truck are assessed and tested to ensure that they are perfect for re-use.

Once passed fit for re-use, the iron and steel body parts are cleaned and repainted before joining the Flexi ECO AC produc- tion line where all-new compo- nentry – pumps, motors and all hydraulic parts and even the latest Zapi AC motor technology - is introduced. Addition to sit-on reach truck family Jungheinrich has launched a new addition to its range of sit-on reach trucks. The new model – the ETV 318 – has a capacity of 1,800kg and can lift a 1,000kg load up to 11.5 metres.

The ETV 318 also features a number of new design elements. For example, it comes with a choice of ‘configuration packages’. The ‘configuration packages’ allow each ETV 318 to be tailored to each user’s precise needs before it leaves the factory.

The ETV 318 features the latest generation AC technol- ogy which offers exceptionally high performance and reduces operating costs to a minimum. It also benefits from a fully sealed electronic controller and custom-designed onboard software specifically tailored for forklift truck use. Because it is bespoke the software helps to

increase both truck reliability and energy efficiency still further. The software on the ETV 318 can link the truck to the user’s warehouse management system. This enables it to semi automati- cally raise the forks to the correct height for the operator to perform the pick or pallet put-away oper- ation. So, when linked to a site’s WMS, the ETV 318 becomes, in effect, a semi-automated truck. To reduce energy usage – and therefore running costs – the ETV 318 has both regenerative braking and regenera- tive mast lowering fea- tures (at high lift heights).

Pedestrian truck world premier

Combilift held the world premier of its Combi-WR Walkie Reach at the IMHX show. This is the first pedestrian truck that the company has launched. “This machine answers the need from customers for a cost effective narrow aisle pedestrian machine for low level storage for operation in areas where the general public may be present,” says Combilift MD Martin McVicar. The multi-position tiller (patent pending) incorporates push button rotation of the rear wheel parallel to the chassis for placing and picking in the aisle. This enables the operator to remain at the side of the truck rather than at the rear, improving forward vis- ibility. The risk of incidents in tight and/or narrow aisles is reduced as the operator is not positioned between the racking and the truck. In order to rotate the rear wheel parallel to the tiller the operator pushes the button again. Safer travelling around corners is also ensured as the Combi-WR reduces speed when cornering.
