Feature Boilers, pumps & valves Pump system promises reliability and lower maintenance

RMI Pressure Systems specialises in high-pres- sure, high-flow pumping systems for use in min- ing, offshore and industrial applications. Its latest Quinmax S500 modular pumping system uses an advanced five plunger design which reduces mechanical pressure on internal parts for increased reliability and reduced maintenance requirements. It’s suitable for applications in remote locations where access is awkward and the cost of unplanned downtime is expensive. The Quinmax S500 pump is the latest addi- tion to the industry leading S-Series of crank- shaft driven reciprocating pumps from RMI. Unlike the more traditional three-plunger design, the S500 features a five piston crank- shaft which allows it to pump higher flow rates (340 – 1080l/min) at greater pressure (190 –

1000bar) with reduced loads on the shaft and bearings for greater periods before service intervals. The range is driven by 300 – 400kW motors and feature ram diameters spanning from 50mm to 80mm.

The advanced five plunger design offers sig- nificant benefits over traditional designs in terms of reliability, maintenance requirements and noise during operation. Because the load on each plunger is reduced in comparison to three plunger pumps of similar specification there is a 40 per cent reduction in the fluid velocity per plunger which results in lower hydraulic noise. The crank is able to turn slow- er, which reduces mechanical wear and noise, while stroke lengths are longer, which leads to fewer reversals.

Solenoid valves for fluids, gases, vacuum and steam

Bürkert Fluid Control Systems’ new Type 6027 direct acting range of process solenoid valves is designed for use with neutral gases, fluids, steam, vacuum and slightly aggressive media at pressures up to 135bar and temperatures to +180˚ C.

The 6027 range offers maximum flexibility to users with a modular design that allows multiple variations of function, temperature range, coil rating, chemical resistance and approvals. This simplifies valve selection for the user, providing the benefits of standardisation and a virtually unlimited combination of valve options. The Type 6027 is a direct-acting (2/2 and 3/2, NO and NC) range of solenoid valves for shut-off, dosing, filling and ventilating tasks, and also for vacuum applications (0…600mbar absolute), in pharmaceuti- cal, food, water treatment and burner applications. Manufactured with brass or stainless steel, the 6027 series is designed for use with gases, steam, water, oils and mildly acidic or alkaline solutions. In addition, there is also an “oil and grease-free” version for dry gases that can be used in oxygen and paint applications. Bürkert Fluid Control T: 01285 648720

New to Valveforce’s portfolio of steam system and flow control products is a range of flow isolating valves for pipelines. Suitable for thermal oil, air, steam and various non-aggressive media applications up to 3,500˚C, the Valveforce range carries the CE mark and complies fully with Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC. These flow isolating valves, include a bellows sealed stop valve for zero emis- sions, designed with an energy-saving stem seal to eliminate losses. Easy to maintain gland-packed stop valves have also been added in a full range of sizes and body materials, with stainless steel internals for robust service and reliable shut off. Completing the range are PTFE-lined butterfly valve packages for corrosive media – and knife gate valves, benefitting from uni-direction for liquids with low solids and bi-direc- tion for liquids with higher solids. Cordless portable hydraulic pump Enerpac has introduced its new

XC-Series cordless pumps, offer- ing the performance capabilities of an electric or air-powered pump with the portability of a hand pump. Enerpac’s new line of cordless powered hydraulic pumps provides a portable, cost- effective solution for remote loca- tions that delivers the speed, the power and the longevity of a corded pump.

Designed to satisfy the need for a long-lasting pump that can be used in hard-to-access areas, XC- Series cordless pumps are con- structed of lightweight materials, equipped with a powerful, 0,37kW motor and feature 28-volt, Lithium-Ion battery technology. With its bladder reservoir, Enerpac’s cordless pumps eliminate venting and offer leak-free operation in any position. Plus, the overall

body, including the shoulder strap, grip and trigger, has been ergonomically designed to maxi- mize ease-of-use and portability. Enerpac’s XC-Series promotes operator safety by removing trip hazards associated with tradi- tional powered pumps. Safety features include overload protec- tion circuitry, which safeguards both the pump and the operator. Enerpac www.enerpac.com Enter 321

The new GAF Series of electromagnet- ic gear pumps from Micropump are ideal for fluids transfer applications which require chemically resistant, leak-free pumps providing high differ- ential pressures at low flows, in a com- pact, yet robust package. Available from pumping specialists Michael Smith Engineers, these pumps provide extended differential pressures up to 250 psi (17 bar) with precise, smooth pulseless flows up to 550ml / min. They include other features, such as wear compensation for near zero slip and extended life, along with the all- important magnetic drive, which elimi- nates the need for leak-prone shaft seals. The suction shoe design of the pump compensates for wear and makes them suitable for continuous duty processes, whilst ensuring optimum efficiency at higher pressures.

elements provide fluid delivery with continuous positive displacement which also reduces system complexity by eliminating system pressure ‘spikes’ and the need for additional devices such as pulse dampeners. Michael Smith Engineers T: 0800 316 7891 www.michael-smith- engineers.co.uk
