LIFE IN COLOR: A FAMILY AFFAIR

For resident DJ, David Solano, Life in Color is more than just the World’s largest paint party. To Solano, it is home. It’s a family affair. Not only because he gets to work with event host and long time friend, Emir Duru, but because he’s been playing for big crowds since practically day one.

With a small group of guys, Solano and Duru transitioned from playing college parties to Miami clubs, which quickly escalated to arenas. While most DJ’s start out playing for small crowds Solano was playing for large parties that turned into arena’s filled with people. “When I play a festival or a big crowd, it feels like home. I was raised in this kind of climate. It has different pressures on you,” shared Solano.

In the last two years Life in Color has been leading the charge for the rise of dance music culture, allowing Solano to give many attendees their first EDM experience. “Its [LIC] exposing people to EDM who were unaware of the genre or lifestyle. I have people tell me that they’ve never heard of EDM but they say it sounds like a crazy party…so they go,” said Solano. In this way, the paint themed tour has opened up markets for both artists and listeners alike.

Solano and Duru agree that their show rituals are all about the environment. “It’s a certain feeling when you walk into this environment… You get naturally excited. People are here to see YOU and to see what you’ve been working on,” shared Duru. The crew pulls in for a pep talk, a couple chest bumps, and then they’re headed to the stage, altering their moves to align with the moments being created between the crowd and the music. No show is the same; each occasion is created and catered for that exact audience at that exact time.

Growing up together, Solano and Duru have been able to watch each other succeed as individuals and artists. “I see David’s passion, I see his hunger. A lot of people say friends and family can’t work together, I don’t believe that. We always put family first and we keep it in the family. Once you have that understanding of family, everyone can lift each other up if you want it for the greater cause,” shared Duru.
