COUNTING DOWN TO DIGITAL DREAMS WITH DUBFIRE.

Last time we chatted, you were about to play the first winter festival in Toronto (BrrrrrFest!). What have you been up to since then?

Dubfire: Quite a lot actually; finishing off my new single ‘Aire’ with Oliver Huntemann which is out now, as is the remix I did for Marc Houle and Miss Kittin’s ‘Where is Kittin’. There’s also a remix for Firgueora & Obando’s ‘Riesling’ and Barem’s ‘A’ along with several new originals which I’ve finished. We’ve also launched the Dubfire Mobile Roadie app which we’d been working on for the past 6 months. And I’ve literally been all over the map with gigs so it’s been pretty full on since Brrrrr!

You were also in the middle of a full body cleanse last time we chatted. What was that experience like?

I visit The Raj in Fairfield, Iowa for a week to 10 days every January to just reset my body systems which is essential to how I live and work the rest of the year; lack of sleep, uneven diet and exercise, and excess alcohol can wreak havoc on your body so I make a point of taking some time to look after myself.

You will also be returning to Toronto for the second instalment of Digital Dreams, how did it go last year and are you excited to be back?

I had a blast last year, and if the pre-party I recently did at Maison was any indication it should be pretty nuts!

With the release of your new EP “Aire”, there are some very interesting sounds happening. Where did you and Oliver Huntemann get the inspiration for the sounds?

The inspiration comes from each other as well as the concept of the four “elements of life”, that has been our roadmap and inspiration for the project. It’s difficult to describe or put into words but we simply try to create a sonic interpretation of what we think each element represents. That is all.

What new things did you learn on this EP? Any new production tricks up your sleeve?

We’re both slaves to the groove and this has a different groove than what either one

of us typically go for. Plus the breakdowns are absolutely mental!

So with the summer months approaching, and Ibiza’s high time around the corner, what are you anticipating the most (other than playing in Canada again)?

I’ve just done the Circoloco at DC10 opening party which kicked off my Ibiza season, and it was really great to be back on the island so I guess that I’m looking forward most to this season’s dates which are for ENTER., Cocoon, Carl Cox and Loco Dice.

What other projects or activities are you working on outside of your musical life at this time (if any)?

My musical life takes up pretty much every hour of the day; but I do manage to find time to cook as often as I can :-)

Well we look forward to having you in Canada for Digital Dreams. Are there any last words you would like to say to your fans and our readers? Thank you as am I! Just that I love my fans in Canada and specifically in Toronto, so really looking forward to enjoying the weather and outdoors with you all again!
