GEORGIA has launched a dedicated route designed to highlight the outstanding golf resort options on offer in the state, writes Steve Hartridge. Fifteen top-class properties, all with championship-standard courses,
have
signed up for a programme designed to place Georgia alongside better-known US golf destinations such as South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida. The Georgia Golf Trail differs from neighbouring Alabama’s Robert Trent-Jones Trail in that all the included courses offer an overnight accommodation option. Participating properties close to Atlanta,
a city served by several daily direct flights from the UK, include Reynolds Plantation (pictured), with four courses and a Ritz Carlton; Chateau Elan, with three courses, a winery and several
restaurants; and
Callaway Gardens, with two courses and a host of other family attractions. On the coast options include The
Easy rider hops to it
EAGLERIDER, which claims to be the world’s largest motorcycle rental and tour company, has teamed up with Sony Pictures to launch an Easy Rider tour based on the Hollywood classic starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. The 15-day tour will offer participants the chance to visit some of the exact locations where the movie was filmed, by riding from the highways of Southern California to Death Valley, Monument Valley to Taos, New Mexico, then across the plains of Texas and down to New Orleans. Those on the tour will also see
behind-the-scenes movie props and hear stories told to members of the EagleRider team by the late director. There will also be the opportunity to
ride the brand-new Captain America bike that EagleRider has commissioned, a probable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
to relive a piece of
motorcycling and cinematic history. The EagleRider Easy Rider tour will run six times throughout 2013, starting this month (May) and ending in October. Prices start from £2,770pp.

Landings on Savannah’s Skidaway Island, with six courses; and the Sea Island Golf Club at The Lodge, with three golf courses including the historic Seaside Course, host of the PGA Tour's McGladrey Classic. The Georgia Golf Trail, which was launched before last month’s Masters at the state’s most famous golf course, Augusta National, will target international golfers, said founder Doug Hollandsworth. “We are keen to work with the UK media and trade to raise awareness of the excellent golf on offer in Georgia. We will target golfers directly and work with tour operators
to develop attractive
programmes and packages," he added. “Atlanta is already a gateway for golfers who fly to the US but then head straight to Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head (South Carolina) and Pinehurst (North Carolina) but with the trail we’ve given them 15 great reasons to stay in Georgia,” said Hollandsworth.
