New lounge in Latin America
Star Alliance and local ground handling company CrossRacer have opened a new lounge at Buenos Aires International airport for the exclusive use of customers travelling on Star Alliance member carrier flights from the Argentine capital. First and Business Class passengers as well as Star Alliance Gold Card Holders will have access to this new 450 square metre facility, which is located on the second level of the new Terminal B. It offers space for around 130 guests and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new Buenos Aires Lounge has been designed in a way that creates a unique local flavour and largely uses materials sourced from Argentina. Buenos Aires-based bureau of architects, Estudio Roitman, was asked to draw up an appropriate design and developed an overall ambiance that reflects the tranquillity of the typical Argentinian La Pampa, or countryside. The light décor and variety of seating spaces create a relaxing and functional environment for guests in which to work, socialise, refresh, sit back, eat and relax. A selection of local and international newspapers and magazines is available, as well as several televisions which provide access to local and international news and sports channels. The refreshment area offers a range of complimentary soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, coffee and tea, as well as a variety of hot and cold snacks. Customers can enjoy their food and drink while socialising at a large communal table or, for a more intimate atmosphere, make use of small bar tables reminiscent of Buenos Aires cafés, or in the general seating areas of the lounge. Passengers wishing to work can make use of the Business Centre, which is equipped with desktop computers, a printer, scanner and photocopier. It provides a quiet and sheltered area for meetings or telephone calls. Local calls are free, as is the wi-fi which is available throughout the lounge.
Dedicated toilet and shower facilities, luggage storage and flight information displays round off the lounge amenities.
Turkish fare tops the culinary list
Recently Skyscanner completed its second annual study on the quality of on-board culinary offerings. In the low cost airline category, Turkish airline Pegasus, which operates flights from London to many destinations within Turkey, secured the number one spot. However, it was the British airlines that dominated thereafter: Flybe took second place, Monarch came third and easyJet secured fourth place. Spanish airline Vueling was voted number five. In the short-haul category it was Scandinavian Airlines that triumphed. Germany’s Lufthansa came in second place whilst last year’s winner, Turkish Airlines, took third place ahead of British Airways. Aeroflot also ranked well, ending up in fifth place.
In the long-haul dining category, Dutch airline KLM claimed the number one position, followed by Aeroflot, SAS, Air France and BA. Overall, SAS, Aeroflot and British Airways performed well, each appearing in the top five, for both their long and short haul meals. A Skyscanner survey of more than 1,500 international travellers revealed that 54% of air travellers believe the overall quality of airline food is currently good, while three-quarters think that it is improving compared with previous years. In fact, airline food now appears to be so good that a surprisingly high 43% admitted to being envious of their neighbour’s choice of meal...
Servair collects four contracts
Servair has been awarded the contract to manage and operate four catering outlets in the passenger terminal at Roland Garros airport, in Réunion.
As a pioneer in the world of airport catering, Servair is offering airlines and airports three new bar and dining concepts. These are Air Lounge Café, PK0 and Terre d’escale. The latter two concepts have been specifically designed for Réunion. The Air Lounge Café and PKO bar concepts have been well received, and Servair has been selected to create, manage and operate the airport’s bar areas in future.
Servair has also been chosen to remodel the concept and design of Hemisphere Sud, the airport’s panoramic restaurant, transforming it into Terre d’escale. Covering a total surface area of 1,300
square metres in the public and passenger areas, these catering facilities will be exclusively operated by Servair for a period of ten years. Separately, Servair has inaugurated its Servair Congo facilities at the Maya-Maya International airport.
