Workshop in Belgrade and the Zeleni Venac open-air produce market. “There are plenty of opportunities

to sample delicious Serbian wines or to take a cookery class to learn how to prepare a traditional meal so its simple to create comprehensive gastronomy breaks in Serbia,” she adds. With the Danube running through its

What’s new Training: The National Tourism Organisation of Serbia is this month launching an online training programme for agents. Available through Travel Uni at sellingserbia.com, the two-module programme has been designed to work as an agents tool kit too with all the help and advice you’ll need to spot potential Serbia clients and clinch the deal. Airlines: JAT operates nine direct

fl ights a week from Heathrow to Belgrade and Wizz operates fi ve direct fl ights a week from Luton. For clients

based outside of the south-east of England remember that many European carriers have daily connections into Belgrade so it may be quicker and more convenient to arrive in Belgrade via another European city. The National Tourism Organisation currently promotes a net fare deal which agents can build on. It includes return JAT fl ights, two nights accommodation at a three-star hotel, private transfers and half-day city tour, priced at €235. There are 15 seats on

every JAT fl ight currently reserved for those selling this deal. It has also created a 52 Weekends in Serbia resource highlighting ideas for weekends in four geographical regions: Belgrade and surroundings,

Vojvodina, Western Serbia and Eastern Serbia. Available at: serbia.travel/ destinations/52-amazing-weekends-in-serbia/ Attractions: Promotions during the 2013 Serbian Year of Culture will focus on events surrounding the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan which, under Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, fi rst established Orthodox Christianity in the Roman Empire. Constantine was born in Serbia and left a rich heritage. Religious tourism highlights range from 9th century churches and frescoes to historic monasteries such as the UNESCO-site of Sopocani. Other cultural assets include the

many archaeological sites, Roman Empire trails linking key historic sites, Medieval fortresses and monasteries. Serbia also has a burgeoning

wintersports offering. Some 30 million euros have been invested in the infrastructure in Kopaonik to refurbish and add ski-lifts and slopes for 2013. The winter ski facilities are popular with mountain bikers in summer. Tourists can join an archaeological

dig in Viminacium, south of Belgrade, and see Serbia’s Roman past being revealed before their eyes.

Tourism talk “Our 2013 tourism campaign aims to raise the profi le of our people as they really are

our strongest resource and represent the soul of Serbia. Last year we focused on gastronomy and now 2013 has been designated year of culture to showcase our many historic attractions and the opportunities for religious tourism. We are keen to target niche tourism because although we offer excellent value, we want to target the top end of the market. We will continue to attend trade shows and intend to run a roadshow and a series of fam trips for operators, media and other stakeholders.” Gordana Palmenac, Managing Director, National Tourism Organisation of Serbia
