“Vietnam boasts some of the world’s most

GOOD MORNNG VIETNAM! BY DEBBIE WARD “In the morning, wearing nothing but my underwear, I open my cabin curtains expecting to see the stunning miles of emerald water and limestone islands of Halong Bay. With a startled shriek I find a woman in a rowing boat instead. She is under my window, passing shell trinkets to potential customers on the deck above. During my cruise on the

Bhaya Classic, as well as the stalactite-filled ‘surprise’ cave, we row to a floating school and an oyster farm. I come to realise the bay is not just a UNESCO-listed beauty spot, but a home and workplace. Halong Bay is a Vietnam must-see, and an easy side trip from Hanoi. Tell clients it’s important to book cruises through a reputable operator in advance because many local outfits have eco-unfriendly boats with noisy generators.”

Tourism talk

“Forward bookings for this year are in line with expectations. We’re fi nding

an increasing proportion of passengers are looking to include a meaningful beach stay of a week or more, as well as the popular cultural destinations. A number of local tourism
