SWING RADIUS EXCAVATORS ARE REVEALED
When space is in short supply, the new ECR25D, ECR58D and ECR88D short swing radius compact excavators from Volvo Construction Equipment are in their element in small, enclosed areas. But even with their compact size, the D-Series compact excavators boast digging performance, breakout and tear out forces, and lifting capabilities that rival their larger counterparts. These machines also feature engines that offer superior performance and reduced fuel consumption. Originally launched in the autumn of 2004 the ECR28 has been replaced by the reduced weight ECR25D whilst the ECR58D and ECR88D are direct replacements for ‘Plus’ versions.
SUPER SUPERSTRUCTURES
Featuring a narrow body design and centrally positioned boom on the ECR58D and ECR88D, the superstructure on these ECR models is so compact that its rear swings within its track shoe, and the ECR25D only exceeds track width when equipped with an additional counterweight. This means that the excavator can get extremely close to objects without risk of collision with the rear of the machine as it swings. But the short front/rear radius is also well suited to working within a single highway lane, minimizing disruption to the flow of traffic. This feature can sometimes be a prequalification condition on contracts.
The ECR25D, ECR58D and ECR88D are available with a mono-boom (or an optional two- piece boom on the ECR88D), several arm configurations and blade for greater flexibility. Quickly positioning the machine is easy, with slew and offset movements controlled simultaneously with a joystick that’s precise and effortless to use.
POWERFUL EFFICIENCY Tearout force, ISO
New engines deliver lower emissions along with superior performance and fuel efficiency. This equates to higher productivity and lower operating costs. The ECR25D and 58D are fitted with a 15.5 kW (21.1hp) and 36.5kW (50.0hp) stage IIIA engines respectively whilst the ECR88D comes with a four-cylinder, 43 kW (58 hp) Stage IIIB engine. The very first ECR28 retailed in GB back in 2004 went to Bullimore Plant Hire St Neots
system (EATS) for lower emissions and seamless operation, performance and productivity – even during regeneration.
An auto-idling system reduces engine speed when the controls are inactive for a specified time (operator pre-set on the ECR58D and ECR88D via the display between three and 20 seconds), reducing running costs and fuel consumption.
SMALL BUT SPACIOUS
Though small, the D-Series ECR excavators provide a superior operator experience — and a comfortable operator environment naturally delivers higher productivity. The cab (standard to the ECR58D and ECR88D) is ROPS-certified and features modern styling with all-around visibility provided by large expanses of flat glass. Comfort is delivered by an adjustable seat, superior vibration and noise insulation, ergonomic armr ests, ideally placed controls and a large floor area for increased foot space.
