Not content with being an all-conquering cycle Olympian and launching his own bike range, the sought after Sir Chris Hoy has been signed up as ambassador for Science in Sport (SiS). Boasting a long-term relationship with the Olympian, SiS made it official in February, with Sir Chris working closely with the brand to help him perform at his best. He’ll be noshing on SiS GO gels, GO Energy and the SiS REGO recovery range, including his personal fave SiS REGO Rapid Recovery. Now you know. www.scienceinsport.com
Orbital to share charity pot
Charity can be a surprisingly complicated business at times, especially when you’re a relatively small fish in the big charity pond, making it hard to find the capital required to link up with fund raising events. Enter the new Orbital Festival, which is taking a new approach with a roster of charity partners that will have access to the ‘pot’ without having to pay up front for the privilege as is often the norm. And all the charities have a direct link to cycling too, including CTC, Cycling Projects: Wheels for All, Access Sport, Re- Cycle, Sustrans and Wheels for Wellbeing. Vaughn not stumped by charity cycling
Michael Vaughan has ditched his cricket whites (and Strictly Come Dancing sequins) for good old-fashioned lycra for a cycle ride for charity. The former England cricket captain is riding around One Day International venues for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and Chance to Shine, with a 12 day tour of England cricket grounds from September 6th to 17th. In case you were wondering, that is 462 miles of cycling goodness. Find out more at www.laureus.com/michaelvaughanbikeride

The Rutland – Melton CiCLE Classic, the single day international cycling road race, has been struggling with sponsorship for the past two years, but Schwalbe has stepped in – with Rutland Cycling Giant store – with a long-term commitment to the race’s development. The tyre brand and shop are now joint title sponsors and now Rutland County Council and Rutland Together will be increasing their support for the race too. Last year torrential rain whittled down the 162 field of cyclists down to 22, so with more seasonal conditions this year (hopefully), the race could be coming into a new era this April. www.cicleclassic.co.uk
