BikeBiz hears that you’ve been a busy man lately, what’s in the pipeline for you? The big news for us is our new partnership with Velocast.cc, which is a major podcast in the pro cycling world. We will become involved, bringing to the table a ‘Tech 5’ product discussion, in which we will discuss five new products per podcast. The show will be presented alongside Rich Land from Wiggle and John Galloway of Velocast. The first episode has actually done very well, shooting to first place in iTunes Outdoors category, as well as being linked to on Road.cc and generating a lot of Twitter conversation.
“We envisage cycle training exploding in popularity.” Sean Lally,
So you are the ‘tech guy’ on the podcast panel? Yes, I’m the technical correspondent/journalist. I will be lucky enough to be able to visit team mechanics at some of the big races in the near future, including all the Spring Classics. While in the pits I will be carrying out ‘day in the life’ style features with the mechanics, as well as documenting the rigours the equipment is put through. I believe it will be a very different kind of race coverage offered.
And how’s things at the Academy, still keeping busy? Very busy, in fact we have new staff
Cycle Systems Academy
joining, one of which I can announce now. Tanda Charry has formerly been Evans Cycles’ technical services advisor and now she joins us as the head academy instructor. We envisage cycle training exploding in popularity in the coming years, so our goal has always been to remain unique. The government funding we have access to is unique to us, thanks to our partnership with Havering College. This provides funded training to any pupil, regardless of age, at the best price in the trade. The link up with Havering provides our students with 75 per cent off the cost of a level three course. This means we can offer ten day courses for as little as £250. What’s more, our level three doesn’t force the student to learn either road or MTB, we
ensure that the pupil has access to everything they are likely to come across in store.
Have you added any new or product specific modules? We’ve plenty of highly focused modules, from two-day Sturmey courses, one-day factory approved EPS training, one-day Brompton service courses and one day Di2 training, among others. Our level three course is also expanding in capacity, with a new training area allowing for additional courses. There are no more than ten students per course to ensure students can have one on one time if needed.
