The team is responsible for providing sourcing, supplier and service management for all travel- related services. TRAVEL BUYER OF THE YEAR WINNER: MARK PAYNE, TRAVEL AND OFFICE SERVICES MANAGER, SANTANDER Mark Payne has been responsible for Santander’s UK travel programme for the last four years. During this time he has been influential in shaping the bank’s business travel, expenses and card programmes. ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER: SHETAL RAVAL, HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS, HRG This year, the judges were anxious to identify one of the industry’s many unsung heroes, someone who reflected the values and professionalism for which the late David Brown was so respected. Shetal is a natural leader, working and leading very much from the front and by example, having worked her way up through the business. Someone who is

a firm believer in the fact that no issue is unsolvable, in times of emergency – when business continuity, and travellers’ welfare and safety are paramount – Shetal is responsible for forming teams who work tirelessly to help and assist travellers and corporate clients. Her knowledge and operational expertise were at the root of her company’s success in safely getting people home in the aftermath of hurricane Sandy, and throughout the Arab Spring, earthquakes, tsunamis and ash-clouds recently experienced around the world.


JUDGES’ COMMENTS: A clear winner due to BSI’s global reach, proven technology, and high transaction and customer satisfaction levels. With owner Capita’s acquisition of Expotel and Venues Event Management, BSI has a very interesting future.


JUDGES’ COMMENTS: This was arguably the most difficult category to judge this year, with an exceptionally high quality in terms of all the entries. The judges were impressed by British Airways’ total commitment to its industry-leading CSR programme, and the recognition that CSR had a fundamental role to play in the long- term sustainability of its business.


JUDGES’ COMMENTS: A truly cohesive team effort, Astra Zeneca Travel Service demonstrated innovative use of social media alongside good marketing of its programme. It is a very smart model of outsourcing and teamwork, with truly invisible boundaries and, with good team results, great foundations were laid for 2013.


JUDGES’ COMMENTS: In a hotly-contested field, it’s Mark’s enthusiasm, putting good experience to work with vision and drive, that gave him the edge. His outstanding example of how to drive a sizeable travel programme, producing tangible results for the company, made Mark a worthy winner.
