Phil Bowell, who until recently was CEO of Bahrain Airport Services, has been awarded the MBE in the UK’s New Year’s Honours list. Separately, he has joined Avtura as a non-Executive Director. Loganair has appointed Stewart Adams,


BMI’s former Regional Managing Director, as its new Chief Executive. Its previous Chief Executive David Harrison becomes Executive Chairman, succeeding Scott Grier who retired in September 2012. Chief Operating Officer Phil Preston makes up the new board.


Finavia has appointed Liisa Sallinen as the new Airport Manager at Oulun airport. Sallinen moves to the position from within Finavia. She has previously worked as the Airport Manager at Kuusamo airport and has considerable experience of developing and implementing airport services at Helsinki airport.


The Chief Executive of South African Airways has stepped down. The Department of Public Enterprises said in a statement that Siza Mzimela had resigned and the airline’s board would begin a search for her successor. Wolfgang Prock-Schauer has taken over the post of Chief Executive Officer of Air Berlin from Hartmut Mehdorn, who has


been in the position on a transitional basis since September 2011.


JetBlue has named Alex Battaglia as Senior Vice President, System Operations. Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals has appointed Vivien Lau as Managing Director of its Hacis (Hong Kong Air Cargo Industry Services) subsidiary. Virgin Atlantic has appointed American Airlines executive Craig Kreeger as its next CEO. Talha Göksel, General Manager, Çelebi


Ground Handling since July 2010, has been appointed as a Çelebi Aviation Holding Board Member.


Dr Martin Schmitt has joined the Lufthansa Cargo Executive Board. Carrier airBaltic has promoted Michael Grimme to the post of Chief Commercial Officer. Grimme joined airBaltic as a Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing in early 2012.

International, has appointed Adrian Littlewood as its new Chief Executive. The Board of Directors of the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport Authority has announced the appointment of Mark B Laroche as President and Chief Executive.

At Swiss WorldCargo, Lalin Sabuncuoglu-Janssen, who is currently Head of Market Europe, becomes Vice President Europe & Africa, while Ashwin Bhat assumes additional responsibility for the American markets as Vice President Americas, Middle East & Asia. In January, Patrik Tschirch and Lutz Schmidt were appointed members of the management board at LUG aircargo. The current Managing Director and COO, Wolfgang Korte, will retire after a changeover period on March 31, 2013. Alaska Airlines has named Ron Calvin as Managing Director, Inflight Operations. Since January 1 2013, Joe Phelan has become responsible for ground handling and cargo in North America and Asia (specifically Japan and Korea). Phelan has successfully managed the ground handling and cargo departments in North America since April 2012, after joining Swissport. With the expansion of his rôle in January, he has been promoted to Executive Vice President, becoming a formal member of Swissport International’s Group Executive Management board, bringing more than 25 years of international logistics and transport industry experience to the GEM.
