Discussing the Future

Our very own Devon Underhill gets chatting to Alex Ruston of Precision Lighting about their position in the industry.

Precision Lighting has completed a number of exciting projects, which ones really stand out for you? Precision Lighting fittings have been specified on prestigious projects at locations from Hampton Court Palace to the Hard Rock Café in Florence. We are proud to be working with many of the leading lighting designers and every project is important to us. But if you were to ask me in six months’ time I would have to say the outstanding projects we’re working on right now, because they are using our brand new LED ranges – Discus, Oculus and Pico.

The company has grown in staff and in presence in the industry recently. How have you managed to get to where you are today? Precision Lighting has continued growing by introducing new products, including all-new LED ranges; refining existing lines and investing in research and testing facilities here in the UK. We have also created a product selector tool on our website to make it easier to specify our products. Some things remain the same though: our new Oculus, Discus and Pico LED spotlight families share the same sleek design aesthetic and use of high-quality AL 6063 T6 Aerospace-grade aluminium and, like the Evo range, they are lockable in pan and tilt for easy installation.

You are involved with various forms of sponsorship, why is this so important to you? We are a family firm based in London and proud of it. When the chance came along to sponsor a local youth football team we jumped at it. We are also pleased to have links with Brunel University, which is where quite a few of us graduated, and we offer placements to design students. This year we are also sponsoring a category in the Lighting Design Awards, which is going to be exciting because a number of our clients have been short-listed. I suppose you could say their success is our success.

How do you plan to expand Precision Lighting in the future? The most important thing to us are our customers, so the plan is to keep listening to what they want, keep improving and keep innovating. A lot of what we are doing is aimed at helping lighting designers and specifiers to do their jobs well. The focus is on quality, flexibility and reliability. We have reorganised and we are always looking for ways to improve our products and service, including bespoke design. However, in the end it is all about the customer.
