BACKGROUND & PROFILE Arista was founded in 2004 by industry luminaries Andy Bech- tolsheim, David Cheriton and Kenneth Duda. This seasoned management team has decades of experience in networking and innovation and is globally recognised as respected leaders and visionaries in networking technology. Arista is currently led by Jayshree Ullal.
Arista was born out of the market requirement for 10 Gigabit Ethernet switching, which offers end users high perfor- mance and increased scalability while lowering complexity and operational cost.

PRODUCTS & SOLUTIONS At the core of Arista’s platform is the Extensible Operating Sys- tem (EOS™), designed to provide a foundation for the business needs of next-generation data centres and cloud networks. EOS is a highly modular software design based on a unique multi- process state sharing architecture that completely separates networking state from the processing itself. STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENTS Arista believes that Ethernet scaling from 10Gbs, 40Gbs to 100Gbs Ethernet, with well-defined standards and protocols for L2/L3, is the optimal approach for companies building clouds. This allows large cloud networks of 10,000+ physical and virtual server/stor- age nodes to scale to 100,000+ nodes in the future. However, it is important to recognise that building such scalable and dense clouds is only part of the equation. Application mobility, storage portability, self-service provisioning/automation, and dynamic resource optimisation create new management and operation challenges different from many of the legacy data cen- tres.
