MIMECAST
Mimecast, a Software-as-a-Service based enterprise email manage- ment specialist, joins the show for the fi rst time this year, so CCI met up with the company’s General Manager – Europe & APAC, Alan Kenny, to talk about the company and why it’s decided to come on board with the awarding winning event.
Founded in 2003 by Peter Bauer and Neil Murray, Mimecast has certainly made a name for itself across the globe. With a crack team of industry experts including Chief Scientist Nathaniel Borenstein, who was one of the original designers of the MIME protocol for formatting multimedia Internet electronic mail, the company has gone from strength to strength and is highlighted as one of the fastest growing technology businesses in the UK.
In 2012, Mimecast was placed 45th in The Sunday Times Tech Track 100, recognised with the Microsoft Innovative Customer Advocacy Partner of the Year Award, awarded Messaging Product of the Year 2012 at the Network Computing Awards as well as being ranked number 20 in the 2012 Deloitte Technology Fast 50, a list of the 50 fastest-grow- ing technology companies in the UK.
WHY CLOUD EXPO EUROPE? “This is the fi rst time Mimecast have attended the event,” said Kenny,
who joined Mimecast in 2008 and built the sales and channel organisa- tion that has established Mimecast as a leading player in the UK SaaS scene, “but we have enjoyed interest from businesses at other cloud focused events. We are excited about the opportunity to work with Cloud Expo as a partner, helping the organisers with their mission; “to showcase how businesses can unlock the potential of cloud computing”. Kenny added: “Mimecast built a platform from scratch that uses cloud computing to deliver email management – slashing on-premise storage requirements, ensuring complete continuity, security and compli- ance, and providing services to help you get more from business email. “Therefore we want to speak to more businesses at the show that are trying to simplify the management of their email, giving them more control and ability to get their information working for them again. “We hope visitors take the time to meet with Mimecast’s techni- cal consultants on stand SP2 and listen to our vision about the future of information management – for businesses and employees alike.”
WHY MIMECAST?
Kenny says that Mimecast “takes the pain out of handling organisation’s most important data: the information that passes through their email systems”.
He comments: “When we started 10 years ago, we saw what others didn’t - that while corporate email was increasingly being used as the primary store for critical business information, it was also becoming more complex; fragmented, less reliable and ever more costly. What had started out as a simple business tool was becoming hard to manage – and creating risk for businesses.
“So, Mimecast was built to deliver cloud-based email manage-

ment for Microsoft Exchange, including archiving, continuity and security. By unifying disparate and fragmented email environments into one holis- tic solution that is always available from the cloud, Mimecast minimises risk and reduces cost and complexity, while providing total end-to-end control of email.”
