Interoute’s CTO Matthew Finnie is no stranger to the speaking circuit, well known for his sharp wit as well as his candid and strong speeches; Finnie has become an in-demand speaker, delivering keynote addresses and in-depth commentary to those around the world on various cloud issues.
With an extensive proven record on driving advanced services strategies, including developing the platform that has allowed Interoute to launch its industry-leading VOIP, Ethernet and Media products, it’s no surprise that Finnie is back this year and set to speak on the fi rst day of the show.
FORWARD THINKING
When Finnie became Interoute’s CTO, he had a vision that if companies centralised technology development, then the European Union (EU) could produce technology success stories on par with Silicon Valley. And, he is proving that the US model can be put to work in the EU. Trained as an electrical engineer, he helped develop early IP- product innovations, including one of the fi rst commercial applications of VOIP a decade ago. As head of the Enterprise Service Development Group at Vocaltec, he worked with European/US carriers and multi- national corporations to launch converged communication services. Fin- nie was also the co-founder of US-based Internet start-up Insitu, which developed real-time IP collaboration tools.
At Interoute Finnie has helped create Europe’s largest private cloud services platform and its award winning cloud based Virtual Data Centre (VDC), which is redefi ning how businesses deploy advanced communications platforms in the Cloud. Interoute’s VDC has also been selected by the UK government for its GCloud intiative. Finnie has de- grees in electrical and electronic engineering and marketing.
WHY CLOUD EXPO EUROPE?
“Cloud Expo is a moment in time,” commented Finnie. “It gives us a forum to reach out to a whole bunch of people. I think the challenge with any of these shows is, to some extent, as they mature they tend to become forums for the industry to look at itself. Thankfully with Cloud Expo this isn’t the situation. At some of the shows we attend all we do is talk to our competitors as they’re the only people there. For us what is interesting about Cloud Expo is that we have access to a whole host of enterprise people who are keen to learn about this whole sector and so they look for an event that allows them to capture it. Cloud Expo gives us a moment in time in the form of an event where we can meet a lot of people, discuss the business issues impacted by the cloud and give our perspective on how we see things moving.”
