BERMUDA
Meet the Operator
What’s Bermuda’s appeal?
It’s a beautiful island with one of the highest standards of living in the world. The beaches are as pink as they look in the photographs and with 365 to choose from, you can always get one to yourself.
Which clients suit Bermuda best? The beaches and hotels with spa facilities appeal to young couples and honeymooners.
PEDAL POWER BY JANE ARCHER
“Bermuda is famous for its beaches but offers so much more than sun, sand and sea. I hired bicycles and pedalled the route of the former railway (it stretches almost the length of the island but only the two sections in the west end are paved). I took the ferry from Hamilton, the capital, to the Royal Dockyard in the west end, where I joined a Segway tour, visited the Maritime Museum and nosed around the craft shops (classy souvenirs; don’t miss the rum cake factory), then headed back to town by bus. Public transport is easy and a Transportation Pass allows unlimited travel for one, three or seven days. I tried snuba diving, a cross between scuba and snorkelling, went scuba diving with Blue Water Divers, and even had some beach time. Bermuda is big enough to offer so much and small enough for visitors to do it all.”
bookings for BA are up an impressive 39% for 2013. We believe this can be attributed to aggressive marketing in the UK, especially the new brand campaign, ‘So Much More’, which is a bold new step in building a lasting tourism brand with a more competitive and sustainable positioning strategy. This is the key selling message relayed to agents and operators promoting the destination. Plans are for agent roadshows in spring 2013.”

There are plenty of activities, from wreck-diving to golf, horse-riding, parasailing and kayaking and well over 100 restaurants, from fi ne- dining to pub-style outlets. There are also family-friendly hotels including Elbow Beach, Fairmont Southampton and Grotto Bay and more golf courses per square mile than any other nation in the world.
What are the ‘must see’ attractions? Don’t miss St Georges, the oldest continuously-inhabited English town in the New World and home to St Peter’s Church, the oldest continuously-operating Anglican Church in the western hemisphere. Hamilton, the island’s capital, is well worth a visit, as is the Royal Naval Dockyard.
Which two-centres do you suggest? Bermuda with Boston or New York offers a perfect mix of beach and relaxation with shopping and city attractions. Toronto and Bermuda is another option.
selling tip The best time to visit Bermuda is from May to October as the island is further north than the Caribbean islands.
