BY LAURA GELDER ANTIGUA and Barbuda is planning an exciting 2013 for its trade partners, including fams, roadshows and a new website. The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s Marketing Executive Joel Omari Henry said: “Our 365 Mega Fam 2013 will take on a new format this year, with a chance for agents to meet important contacts in a ‘marketplace- style’ symposium.”
The symposium will be attended by local suppliers and ground handlers and will be in addition to excursions taking in the two islands’ attractions such as Shirley Heights.
The tourism authority is also to re-launch the trade section of its website next year, to make it more user friendly for both mobile and iPad users, said Henry. New for 2013 is a series of training road shows across five counties (during February and March). Sponsored by British Airways, the road show will offer agents the chance to win prizes including a place on a post-road show fam trip.
In addition, Antigua and Barbuda
continues to offer travel agents holidaying in Antigua and Barbuda special rates available (upon request).

said. “We don’t accept ‘teething problems’ as an excuse when we have a plane grounded. These problems are unacceptable when they make us fall behind on our expansion programme.” Al Baker said that Qatar Airways would be operating 10 Dreamliners by the end of 2013, instead of the proposed 30. The CEO gave press and trade a tour of the plane and its cutting-edge features, including shadeless windows – 30 per cent bigger than average and fitted with technology allowing passengers to dim it at the touch of a button. The Dreamliner also has larger luggage bins, dynamic mood lighting, spacious-feeling higher ceilings and fresh filtered air. Al Baker arrived on scheduled daily flight QR 075, which will be the initial flight to use the Dreamliner (departing Doha at 06.25, arriving at Heathrow at 11.05, and returning as QR 076 leaving London at 15.05 and arriving in Doha at 0045 the next day). The airline has taken delivery of the first three of 60 Dreamliners and will continue to roll them out. “We will be introducing the Dreamliner on our daily Doha – Perth route from February 1 2013,” said Al Baker. “This will be the first ever 787 commercial service to Australia giving travellers a unique experience of unrivalled comfort and style.”
