AVM acquires Impact to form the UK’s largest integrator
INTEGRATOR AVM (Audio Visual Machines) has acquired its competitor Impact. The two companies’ merged operations, known as AVM Impact, will be the UK’s largest provider of audiovisual and videoconferencing solutions. Headquartered in Sunbury, Middlesex with additional offices throughout the UK, it will also manage an extensive and established alliance of audiovisual companies across the world. The move brings AVM’s total number of acquisitions to eight in the past seven years. In April 2011, it acquired managed video services provider VC-NET.

“AVM Impact will benefit customers by combining each company’s strengths and by taking advantage of economies of scale that have not yet been seen in the UK audiovisual market,” commented Edward Cook, CEO of AVM Impact (pictured).
“It is also our aim to use our scale to develop ever more sophisticated engagement models and standards-based solutions to meet the needs of the global communications and IT industries with which we partner extensively.” Thomas Doyon, executive chairman of Impact Europe Group AB, added: “We believe that AVM is a natural and excellent choice for Impact’s evolution. It will enable the company to be a more interesting partner to customers and have the strength to deliver larger and more complex solutions globally.” www.avmvision.comwww.impact-europe.com

PHILIPS VARI-LITE luminaires have been specified by lighting designer Marc Heinz for Utrechtse Spelen’s stunning portrayal of Christoph Willibald von Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridicein Utrecht. Staged on water, the set comprises a ‘floating’ orchestra pit, the stage and a system of underwater catwalks. Heinz chose Philips Vari-Lite VL3500 Wash and VL3500Q Spot luminaires as the backbone of his lighting rig. “I wanted everything hidden from view, so that the audience could feel the magic of the
opera and it’s setting without distraction,” explained Heinz. “This meant positioning luminaires in some quite unusual locations – for example, some of the VL3500Q Spots were positioned with the lens almost parallel with the water.” www.vari-lite.com
