Lap.gruppen’s E Series offers efficiency and reliability

The E Series 1U power amplifier from Lab.gruppen builds on many of the energy efficiency concepts debuted in the Swedish company’s flagship PLM 20000Q touring amplifier, but instead offers an install-centric system. The new amplifier platform is called IDEEA: IntelliDrive Energy Efficient Amplifier. Certified as Energy Star 2.1 compliant, the device offers high- headroom universal power supply, which allows it to accept power from any main voltages from 70 to 265V at 50 or 60Hz. A high storage capacity enables the amp to maintain extra headroom on the supply rail, which ensures the prevention of excessive draw on the mains inlet during repeated peak bursts. This helps resolve issues such as unstable power supply (UPS/generator), eases the pressure on normal power connections that could otherwise restrict the number of amps in use, and it prevents

momentary voltage drops. The amplifier’s Class D output

stage operates above 90%, while the inherently bridged topology allows up to twice the rated power output on one channel when the other channel is unused or driving. This provides a reduction in power consumption in both operational and non-operational cycles and can result in lower long- term cost of ownership – offering a ‘sellable’ advantage for contractors and a tangible benefit for end-users. The amplifier features the latest

refinement to Lab.gruppen’s proprietary approach, Rail Sensing Limiter (RSL). This is said to optimise amplifier output by providing each channel with a two-position switch that sets the output for driving either low-impedance or high-impedance (70V) loudspeaker systems, with a +4dBu sensitivity. Lastly, control via third-party

systems is enabled via GPIO. www.labgruppen.com

Energy-conscious Ottocanali from Powersoft

The Ottocanali 1204 amplifier from Powersoft is an energy-efficient device offering a more efficient way to manage power over eight channels, with a maximum output power delivery of 1,200W. The amp features embedded

Green Audio Power, which incorporates two technologies: power factor correction integrated into the switching mode power supply; and Class D PWM (pulse width modulation) high efficiency output stage. Combined, these enable the amplifier to function at a lower temperature, thus reducing strain on the cooling system and subsequently the overall energy use. Additional energy-efficient

features include the Energy Save function, which can be initiated via a switch on the front panel, allowing the amplifier to operate at around 9W. Energy Star qualification is currently pending for the Ottocanali. The amplifier can drive different loudspeakers – both low and high

impedance – enabling up to 55 output configurations. This is possible thanks to Powersoft’s BatFormers: specifically developed, highly compact optional plug-in output transformers that can be installed through a dedicated lid in the amplifier chassis, and that allow the conversion of any – or all – of the eight channels into a 70V or 100V constant voltage output. Powersoft also offers an enhanced version of the amplifier in the Ottocanali 1204 DSP+ETH. This is compliant with the IEC 60849 standard (concerned with the suitability of sound systems used to broadcast information in the event of an emergency). It includes DSP functionality for all eight channels and an internet-connection for full control and monitoring through the Powersoft Armonia Pro Audio Suite PC software. This version is compatible with all other Powersoft K, M, D, Q and Duecanali Series Amplifiers. www.powersoft-audio.com

existing Cat5 infrastructure. With all the hardware needed for

multi-room audio contained in one box, rack space isn’t at a premium either, providing the additional benefit of more space to work with. There’s also no need to loop the

system in and out of multiple units using older analogue stereo RCA phono cables because of the single cable system. From the front panel or the menu-driven software tools, installer-friendly configuration of a multi-room HD audio system is said to be fast and easy. Custom speaker profiles and five-

band EQ presets provide each zone with the best sound based on its natural acoustic qualities. In addition, Crestron says the solution will integrate easily into an all-in-one control solution that it is so widely known for, enabling, for example, speakers to be operated via a touchpanel and Crestron Apple iPod docks to be connected to the device via a Cat5 cable. Sonnex drives 200W at 4 ohms per channel, delivering nearly 30,000W of total power and creating ‘unforgettable high-definition listening experiences in every room’. www.crestron.eu

{} Yamaha’s brand new XMV Series will debut at ISE

Making its European trade show debut at ISE 2013 this month, Yamaha’s new XMV Series of multichannel power amplifiers is part of the company’s Commercial Installation Solutions (CIS) product range.

The Series comprises four models:

the XMV4280, XMV4140, XMV4280-D, and XMV4140-D – each varying in output power capabilities and flexible in/out connectivity to accommodate different installation environments. With applications often utilising both high- and low-impedance speakers, the XMV power amplifiers can operate in both modes simultaneously: high (70V/100V line) or low (4 ohms/ 8 ohms) eliminating the need for additional equipment, as well as streamlining the installation process. XMV power amplifiers also enable both 70V and 100V operation for every pair of channels; users select the preferred mode using dip switches on the rear panel. High impedance operation often necessitates the use of two combined channels in bridge mode, but with XMV amplifiers, 70V or 100V mode can be assigned to every pair of

channels without affecting the number of available output channels. In addition, a newly developed Double Power Mode function effectively doubles the output power of selected channels. This means that speakers with varying output capacities can be powered simultaneously by the same amplifier, adding flexibility to system design and configuration. XMV amplifiers also come equipped with either the newly developed YDIF digital audio format, or Audinate’s Dante digital audio network. What’s more, this series of amplifiers features an innovative, patent-pending circuit that brings the efficiency level of the amplifier's output stage up to over 90%. This is achieved by automatically switching the circuit to match the corresponding output voltage. By automatically switching to a lower voltage drive, low impedance efficiency is improved without

sacrificing crucial aspects of the amp’s performance such as keeping the distortion levels to a minimum. XMV power amplifiers also feature a

new switching power supply equipped with power factor correction. This ensures harmonic control and decreases the amount of current draw dramatically, yet still maintains the same output power. This makes circuit breakers less prone to shutting down, as well as eliminating the need for thicker, heavier cables or a larger, more powerful system. www.yamahacommercialaudio.com
