Software plays an evermore significant role in AV technology, while cables and connectors remain as important as ever
Software coolux is to present the latest version of its interactive application builder software, the Widget Designer. Ver- sion 4.0 boasts a number of new fea- tures, but one of the most significant is the built-in web server, which enables users to create and control all show control interfaces from any remote HTML browsing device. An unlimited number of devices can be controlled and integrated this way. Jan Huewel, founder and CEO of coolux, said: “Our aim has always been to develop a product that would make it possible for non- programmers to produce immersive interactive experiences, and we feel very confident that old and new customers alike will use our latest products to create true beauty.” According to Fredrik Svahnberg,
Dataton’s marketing director, the company is presenting a very much updated version of its Watchout multiscreen software at ISE. “Over the last year we have really improved Watchout, adding a number of new features such as 3D stereoscopic playback, live video streaming, interactivity and
multiple languages,” commented Svahnberg. “What we are showing at ISE marks the start of a major move forward for us.” This year also marks Dataton's 40th anniversary, as well as the opening of its new corporate headquarters at Mjärdevi Science Park in Linköping, Sweden; the manufacturer is hosting a party at its ISE stand at 17:00 on Monday 28 January to celebrate. Sonic Foundry has made enhancements to its Mediasite EX webcasting and video content man- agement system with the introduc- tion of the 6.1 family of features. The 6.1 version provides more con- trol and flexibility for universities, automatically processing not only the video but its associated meta- data through powerful search and analytics, making rich video as use- ful as text. New features include a user-generated content module that allows instructors, staff and students to easily create, upload, edit, share and manage rich video presentations wherever they are through My Mediasite and Media- site Desktop Recorder.
Content approval workflows
ensure that user-generated content is quality-controlled. Authorised users can review, comment, edit and approve video before it’s published. The web-based Mediasite Edi-
tor allows Mac or PC users to edit rich video, while media import of MP4 or WMV lets uploaded con- tent take advantage of Mediasite’s search, analytics and security.
Cables and connectors
The Octopus Hybrid PUR 443 fibre optic hybrid cable from Sommer Cable features a combination of four OM3 multimode fibre optics (50/125µm – 10 GBASE-SR over 300m, 1000 BASE-SX over 900m – breakout design with special aramid threads as strain relief and direct connector assembly); three power supply wires with 2.5sqmm (nominal voltage 300/500V, brown/blue/green-yellow); and two signal pairs (2 x 2 x 0.22sqmm) for control applications or transmitting AES/EBU (or DMX) signals, for instance.
The whole construction is sur- rounded by a dense aramid mesh
Sommer Cable’s Octopus Hybrid PUR 443 fibre optic cable is compact and lightweight
and fitted with a cold-flexible PUR jacket. The maximum tensile load of the cable is 600N. With a mod- est outer diameter of 13.4mm, the cable is compact and lightweight (190g/m): 100m cable length on the compact HT481 drum from SCHILL weighs less than 30kg. Rexant International will show
its Low Smoke Halogen Free (LSHF) cable. Having an LSHF jacket means the cable does not
give off any toxic smoke when it is exposed to fire. In addition, its PET tape or mica/glass tape isola- tion allows it to be fire-resistant. One of the cable’s benefits is an aluminium foil or cuprum foil shielding. The cable benefits from thermosetting insulation, and solid or stranded annealed tinned copper drain wire. Operating volt- age range is from 300 to 500V. www.iseurope.org
Produced by Installation, thedaily is the official newspaper of Integrated Systems Europe. It is put together from an office on the showfloor and distributed to attendees at hotels, on shuttle buses and on arrival at the event.
ISE 2013 runs from 29 to 31 January at the RAI Centre, Amsterdam; the conference programme begins on 28 January.
There will be a further preview of ISE 2013, courtesy of the team from thedaily, in the February edition of Installation, which will be published ahead of the show.
