Biamp probes sound’s effects

BIAMP SYSTEMS has released a white paper which looks at how sound is affecting the way we work, learn and sleep, and the impact the noise of urban environments has on our health. Co-authored by sound expert Julian Treasure, the Building in Soundreport looks at how the built environments we live in are ill suited to the demands of modern noise. The paper calls for sound and acoustics to be given much greater consideration – by architects, interior designers and engineers, and by policymakers, public service administrators, business leaders and property

investors. It argues for a truly integrated approach to sound, where acoustics, noise reduction, sound systems and content fit together to create environments that transform the productivity and health of their occupants. According to the report

there are four ingredients for effective sound design in any space. Acoustics should be designed in from the start; all noise sources, including heating, computer fans and the like should be considered and reduced if possible; the sound system should be of a suitable quality – cheap systems limit options for upgrade; and professional

RUSSIA Polymedia releases Congress

year’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, said: “No matter how much you think you know, there’s always something to be learned from the varied papers. And being able to spend three days socialising with both presenters and exhibitors is time well spent.” www.showlight.org

INTEGRATOR POLYMEDIA has launched Congress – a software package for use when preparing and holding legislative meetings. Congress has broad functionality and can be used for registration, filing, speeches, organising votes, and more. “Congress was created to be a major element in the preparation and maintenance of legislative sessions, increasing the efficiency of work and the effectiveness of meetings in general,” said Victor Demenko, head of software solutions at Polymedia. The first practical application of the software took place in September at a meeting of deputies of the State Council of the Republic

of Komi concerning the Republican budget for 2011. More than 36 questions were considered and over 40 people voted using the system. In November, Polymedia implemented Congress for 100 users in the hall of the State Council of the Republic of Komi. “The Congress system

proved to be a highly effective tool for holding and supporting sessions. We believe that this new solution has a great potential for development and implementation at state level,” said Alexander Selyutin, head of the committee of informatization and communication of the Republic of Komi. www.polymedia.ru
