QUICKIES Hot Hot Hawk
Rise And Down
Wearerussians.com 6.0
Poppy electro was all the rage a couple of years back and this cheery outing fares no worse than those hyped major label creations — and you can download this free ‘n legal.
Noob
Freak People EP Bad Life 7.0
Noob has released on Boys Noize and Turbo, and packages like this idiosyncratic vocal and a simple skipping groove are a sign of the high bar which Bad Life is aiming for.
ELECTROREVIEWS Seldom Cinq
Shun & SMMY
Movement EP GND 7.0
Tokyo duo Shun & SMMY kick in with two bass buzzy growlers in ‘Movement’ and ‘IWGP’, the latter of which will find its way into a host of big name DJ sets.
Sinner DC
Day/Night Mental Groove Records 6.0
A widescale ambition clearly sits behind this soundscape of arpeggio keyboards and warm, old-style analogue- sounding synths. An instrumental edit would be even better.
Seven Sisters CDR 7.0
A great, extremely simple series of atmospheric bubbles of sound pull together in this mildly euphoric late nighter. Named after one of the arterial roads in London and the first in a series of ‘internet drip feeds’ called ‘London Drift’, it might not sound like rush hour, but does have something of a fluorescent streetlamp glow. In these days of everyone getting everything on the likes of Beatport, this definitely deserves a proper release.
Soundex Phonetic
Self Construction EP Tudor Beats 7.0
Mixhell
Exitwound Boys Noize Records
8.0
Iggor Cavalera is the ex- drummer of metal behemoths Sepultura and his releases over the past year or so on his somewhat unlikely new home of BNR have been mainly hit-and-miss affairs. Mixhell is a collab with his DJ wife Laima Leyton and fellow Brazilian producer Max Blum, and here they have really hit their stride with a fantastically driven discofunk electro-rocky groove. Great remixes include a tear-up from Savage Skulls.
Arnaud Rebotini VITALICDIFFERENT RECORDINGS

04. JOHN LORD FONDA ‘Heaven’s On Fire’ Citizen Records “A good, dark, techno track which is full of energy.”
05. ARNAUD REBOTINI ‘CM (Chloé Remix)’ Citizen Records “I’m really happy with this Chloe remix on my label Citizen.”
06. REBOLLEDO ‘Guerrero’ Comeme “Very deep and dark, but with added Mexican humour thrown in for good
measure.”

Pagan Dance Move Zone Records 7.0
Zone Records is the label run by The Hacker & Gesaffelstein and Arnaud Rebotini needs no introduction. Lead track ‘Pagan Dance Move’ is a classic Black Strobe motorik stomp that throbs along, but the end result is more of a soundtrack for a long meandering drive rather than a club banger. ‘Their Synthetic Majesties Request’ is a gear up for when you can put the pedal a little further to the floor.
Dazzle Style
23FA:00E5 EP UnterMusik 7.0
In a mixed reviews bag this month there are old names and unknowns alike and it’s the newer labels that seem to have the excitement levels sewn up. Whilst the sonic pressure of brickwalled
mastering thankfully seems to be a thing of the past, dynamic range is making a comeback and the classic snare roll builds in the abstractly named ‘42ED:33TH’ and 55ED:78UI’ make them dancefloor certs for old skool ‘hands-in-the- air’ moments.
Giorgio Moroder vs. MB Disco
From Here To Eternity MB Disco 6.0
A remix package of Moroder’s ‘70s classic which brings together the cream of Belgium’s new talents in the form of remixes from Aeroplane, Compuphonic, Attar! and Fusty Delights. The original is cited as a ‘70s disco track that went on to influence the first wave of Detroit house. The range of versions in the package open up different avenues from more recent eras, with Attar!’s being the highlight.
Kinky Roland & Blue Pearl
Can You Feel The Passion? Fetch Records 7.0
The original was a hit for Blue Pearl in the ‘90s (also responsible for the massive chart house classic ‘Naked In The Rain’), and this release on new label Fetch updates it, along with extra remixes from Terry Farley, Marc Lime & K Bastian. It’s the Boys Own legend Farley’s deep vocal version that brings a timelessness to the proceedings, and he chucks in a slightly slower late night dub.
www.djmag.com
You’ll have heard of Tudor Beats on this page previously, with Chordata’s ‘Resist EP’, and with this release, the label certainly shows that it is unafraid of standing out from the crowd. It’s certainly another quirky selection of tracks, this time from Glasgow- based Soundex Phonetic, and if they carry on like this they’ll start being called a British Brainfeeder. Putting the ‘mental’ back into ‘experimental’ with not a hint of dubstep in sight or sound.
Sun Industries Shiver
Ignition 45s 7.0
Ignition is a name associated with rockier sounds than are usually featured on this page, being the management set-up famous for steering the musical supertanker of Oasis through the choppy waters of their 18-year career. Now they have a new singles-only label and the first release finds itself here by way of an insistent early Taking Heads-style groove and vocal, altogether sounding like a Jagz Kooner production, which is a very good thing.
Tiga
Plush Turbo Recordings
7.0 A new single from Tiga should be something of a big deal, but ‘Plush’ doesn’t quite stand up to scrutiny as a full-on return to the dancefloor fray. It’s a brand new track from his new mix album ‘Tiga Non Stop’ and it is getting a separate single release. Although a reminder of how effortless he makes things sound, let’s hope there’s some stronger stuff in the pipeline for a proper release soon.
