Having just kicked off their North American tour, the English duo of James Ford and Jas Shaw bring you a live show that can be considered a slight departure from that of shows passed. The latest EP comes five years after the release of their debut album, with a lot of music love in-between. Having now traveled the world a few times over, with one half of the duo producing tracks for the likes of Florence & the Machine and The Arctic Monkeys, the production team known for their live performances is making sure this tour isn’t just two guys standing in front of some LED lights. We are excited to see what they have in store, as we already know the music will be on point. Can’t get there to witness it yourself? In addition to stepping up the live-show game, SMD is also stepping up the interweb game, with a new blog highlighting the musical and visual aspects of the show.

Oh shiiiit! Things are about to get serious in the tropics in a ghettotech, ass-shaking kind of way. We have reported on Dirtybird countless times because of how crazy good the beats, so naturally we had to track them down and see where they are choosing to ring in the New Year. BOOM! Low and behold, two of our favorite places to get down, Miami and Grand Central. This will sell out for sure so get your tickets, flights, hotels, etc, or call that one friend you usually only bother for a couch space during Winter Music Conference. We know this crew rolls deep, so we don’t even have to tell you the music will be ridiculously good. It makes us smile just thinking of all you getting down on the dancefloor. We’re kind of amazed that Poplife & Kloud IX (Young Hearts) beat out the universe to score this booking, so we salute their efforts in continuing to lure the realness to a city that for long was overlooked by touring bands and DJs alike. We toast this party with Champagne, straight from the bottle of course.

Minnesota is really from Santa Cruz, but that’s cool. We don’t really mind being slightly confused as long as you keep giving us free downloads of beats like the ones off the latest Altered States EP. Christian Bauhofer is DJ and producer Minnesota and is making waves across the underground scene with his mesh of hip-hop, trap and dubstep productions. You will start seeing this dude on bills more frequently, such as the Snowglobe Festival in Lake Tahoe or the Lights All Night NYE party in Dallas. We recommend seeing him on tour with hip-hop duo Zion-I for a mind-blowing cross-genre jump-off in an intimate setting. On testing his new releases across the country, he says “It’s great playing my new songs in front of a diverse crowd - the hip-hop fans appreciate my combination of hip-hop elements with bass music and everyone seems to be getting down to my new, unique sound.” We dig it and look forward to big things from Minnesota, by way of California…
