artist called Roska. He’s a Rinse FM artist. It’s definitely going on the album. It might come out before the album, but it’s definitely going on the album.”
Do you have a tentative release date on the album? “No, no tentative release date and no label as of yet. I mean, Dirtybird has thought about it, but it might not be a Dirtybird album. Obviously, I would love to put it out on Dirtybird, because Dirtybird is like my home. Dirtybird and Pets are my home, and Pets aren’t releasing albums. So Dirtybird would be the place, but if they’re not into it, which judging from how many of my records Claude VonStroke has said ‘no’ to (laughs), then I can quite easily see them not being into it and I’d have to find a home for it.”
So you have a label coming in 2013? “Yeah, definitely. It’s going to be called Edible and it’s going to be kind of a brand, so it’s going to become like, you know, same as anything — same as Hot Creations, same as Dirtybird. They’ve got club nights, the label, etc. We’re doing our first Edible night on New Year’s Day at Bristol’s In:Motion which will be me, Tale Of Us, Richy Ahmed, Subb-an, Waifs and Strays and a couple more we’re waiting to
announce. And then we move on to Fabric on February 2 in room 2, which will be another Edible party, so it’s all looking really good. Then with the label, I don’t know how we’re going to play it, but I think we might try and release a couple of my things initially. We could even put the album out just on our own label.”
What kind of music would the label release? “I want to release whatever I like. I want to release anything across the house spectrum — I’m totally open. I just want to release the right music.”
So you just had the ‘Vertigo EP’ come out. How is that doing? “It’s doing really well, actually. It’s been well received. A lot of the bass music guys are playing it and a lot of the deep house guys are playing it. The main thing is that it’s been well received by press and DJs alike. It’s a very different EP for me than, say, ‘Entrance Song’, but I want to try and keep doing that, try and make something different than I made last time, basically.”
Eats Everything opening up for Pete Tong at Beta Nightclub in Denver, Colorado.
Having never been out on Thanksgiving night before, we have our reservations as we head into Beta. It’s 10.30pm and Eats Everything is just warming up. The club is virtually empty and instantly we assume the worst. But the lack of attendance doesn’t slow Dan down a bit. Though Eats doesn’t have quite the same gusto as other times we’ve seen him, most notably at the All Gone Pete Tong closing party late this in summer at Pacha, Ibiza, he still has enough zeal and energy, combined with flawless and energetic transitions, to keep even the thin crowd highly entertained. However, the patrons continue to flood in and by 11pm the place is really starting to fill up. Quarter of an hour later, it’s packed. Bellies are full of Thanksgiving turkey (as Eats Everything would like it), arms are in the air and Dan heads into jacking bass, then over to acid-laden territory, constantly pumping the crowd up, not once letting things fall flat. One fan delivers the DJ a shot as he loops and pitches a vocal sample up to a steep crescendo, then 15 minutes later, the fan returns with another, though this time Eats mimes that the shot will knock him out, and after several repeat attempts, the fan finally gives up and takes the shot himself.
A while later, as we’re starting to wonder if he’ll drop anything from his new EP or an old fan favorite, he finally blows everyone away with a personal edit of Disclosure’s remix of Jessie Ware’s ‘Running’, the crowd losing it to one of the summer’s biggest hits. Just before he finishes, he drops a crowd favorite, the Eats Everything remix of Adam F’s drum & bass classic ‘Circles’, though in true Pearce fashion, he never seems to play the same edit twice, this version slightly different than the last time we heard him drop it.
Finally he passes the decks to Tong, and through a sea of smiles everyone seems to agree that this is one of the most fun sets that they’ve seen at Beta in recent memory.
