Having the skills to influence, communicate and network is no longer enough to guarantee personal and organisational success. You also need to be able to navigate the politics of your own and your client organisations.
Unfortunately the research indicates that many people opt out of managing politics for all sorts of reasons and then pay the price in terms of career development, achievement of objectives and unworkable relationships. The inability to manage the politics of an organisation is also the number one cause of stress in the workplace.
Given this background, what people need is not only a keen awareness of their political landscape, but more importantly, the skills to manoeuvre effectively around political minefields using a positive set of behaviours critical to getting things done. From a sales perspective we all need to understand and be able to work with and around the politics of our client organisations.

15.00 – 16.30 Best Practices Are Not Enough: Making Meaningful Events
Even though we’re more digitally connected than ever (email, social networks, websites, etc.), more physical events than ever are taking place too. Our basic nature hasn’t changed that much after all and we still crave for meaningful human connections.
High quality content and powerful networking are still utterly important but participants are opting for events that provide a great overall experience and real value (be it new business, useful contacts, relevant content or an entertaining time).
How can we satisfy people with short attention spans who are constantly interrupted by the plethora of gadgets they carry with them? How can we compete with and differentiate from the dozens of events that have popped up in the last few years?
In this interactive workshop we’ll explore tools to create event experiences that are valuable both for the organization and the attendees and learn how to challenge business as usual from examples of the most innovative events around the world.

09.00 – 10.30 Stories of Great Leadership in Times of Challenge and Change
Albert Einstein is credited with saying that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. In the context of the challenges faced by the meetings management industry today, this could easily become the definition of failure.
Whilst we may recognise that new strategies and innovative plans are needed, in times of great uncertainty and change, trying something new can be a very daunting prospect. The fear of failure and the price of making the wrong decision quite literally narrow our thinking and blind us to opportunities, as our reptilian a brain and fight or flight instincts take over. It’s perfectly natural,
but not very helpful. What we need are role models that inspire and encourage us to think and act in new ways, to take the difficult decisions, and to make the impossible possible.
In this session The Mark of a Leader will give you just that using stories and storytelling to engage, challenge inspire the audience about the possibilities that inevitably immerge from the most challenging environments. Stories such as Cirque du Soleil, Dabbawala, Zappos and the Shackleton’s Endurance, will bring the opportunities and possibilities of change to life in inspirational ways that are as meaningful and relevant today as they have always been.
