G2E 2012 WMS has had arguably the best collection of

slots of any of the major slot manufacturers in recent years, and while the competition has caught up to WMS, they still had an incredibly strong product array at G2E. Highlights for us were the new Blade cabinet, boasting sleek looks and a really small footprint; and Colossal Reels, which we first saw last year, but which continues to impress. Colossal Reels uses two reel sets, one traditional and one oversized, and wild symbols move between reels. It looks brilliant and brings a new dimension to slots for customers. With over 100 games on the stand, it’s hard

to know where to look sometimes. Luckily, the company’s new licensed product really stood out: Kiss, Cheers, Spider Man, and Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory all have huge worldwide recognition, and all look terrific on a gaming floor. Add to this the Monopoly range – with new addition Prime Real Estate – and the fab Gone With the Wind slot, to name a few, and you have a really rosy-looking 2013 for the company.

than 50 North American offices and representation in over 70 countries. Cummins-Allison introduced its

groundbreaking compact desktop JetScan iFX i100 and i200 ticket processing technology. They scan and image casino tickets and currency at 1,200 items per minute and track currency serial numbers. Both machines eliminate copying,

microfilming and storing physical tickets while cutting the presort cash and tickets step before processing. A common platform simplifies employee training and provides built-in redundancy within the property. Customers may send images to their own

systems or use Cummins-Allison’s centralized Image Management Software for future research, sorting or review. The i100’s standard currency scanning and counting feature totals 1,600 notes per minute. This labor and processing cost saver also reduces equipment and service costs. The compact JetScan iFX i400 multi-pocket

sorter has casino ticket bar code recognition. It processes and sorts 1,000 documents mixed tickets and cash on a desktop multi-pocket sorter per minute. The JetScan iFX i406 model – part of the JetScan iFX i400 line – processes Canadian dollars, Euros and U.S. dollars. Global casinos can process multiple currencies on the same sorting machine. All i400 models have either horizontal or vertical configurations for three, five, seven or nine pockets.

JCM’s iVIZION continues to evolve as the company builds a suite around its flagship product. On their stand, the talk was of combiningiVIZION with the Intelligent Cash Box version 2.5, to create something really special; ICB 2.5 allows customers to access reports any time, anywhere, and from any browser, plus auto report notification with email, and a new, user-friendly interface. The language package includes English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Italian and German. Add to these the Sentry 2.0 display bezel,

exclusive to iVIZION, with high contrast, high- resolution two-colour LCD graphics. Messages can display in four languages, with Simplified Chinese, English, French and German, or any combination of two languages. Elsewhere on the stand, demos were being

given of JCM’s bump pay technology, the Mobile Wager Wallet, where the customer’s mobile phone acts as their play wallet; it uses established technology in other industries, and it’s a marvel as to how no-one has brought it to the gaming floor yet. But now, JCM has added NRT to the equation, so there’s also a redemption ATM kiosk in the mix. Customers can add funds or redeem a win at the ATM, easing the pressure on the casino’s payout booth.

And of course there’s the exciting iV8, the

table game bill validator for low denomination note currencies – such as Macau – which could add up to an hour’s extra play per table, per day. That’s some serious coin; expect this one to fly in Asia during 2013.

Established in 1998, the international Gaming Standards Association (GSA) trade association mission is to create benefits for gaming manufacturers, suppliers, operators, and regulators. The group identifies, defines, develops, promotes and implements open standards, benefitting the gaming industry through innovation, education, and communication. GSA’s members represent a diverse global cross section of the gaming industry. According to GSA President Peter DeRaedt,

2012 has been successful for improving standards. GSA’s unique Game to Game System (G2S) facilitates the gaming industry’s move from serial connections, accessible only by a single local system, to a networked connection. Products undergo rigorous testing prior to G2S certification. DeRaedt claims its time-saving process will

expedite game releases to the marketplace. SPIELO International’s INTELLIGEN Central System has earned the first G2S certificate. As Macau gaming expands, GSA is

coordinating with the Macau Polytechnic Institute (MPI) curriculum. DeRaedt describes a “knowledge transfer program” that significantly motivates innovation. School officials have already worked with GSA, and they will return for their final information exchange in April 2013. The first students will graduate with a B.S. in Computer Science with Gaming Technology in 2013. GSA aims to promote standards and information throughout Asia and the rest of the world.

Looking ahead, the GSA is developing a tool that enables G2S Automatic Compliance Verification (CVT). Member companies Aristocrat Technologies, Bally Technologies, BMM Test Labs, IGT, Spielo International and WMS Gaming will support this development. Under GSA’s supervision, Radical Blue Gaming of Reno will create the CVT. Its goal is to quickly and easily verify compliance with the G2S protocol standard.
