here was so much to enjoy at G2E 2012, you could almost forgive the venue – almost. Last year, Sands Expo had some novelty value, people were enjoying the ease of access to
the venue, most visitors had just walked there from their hotels. This year, the cracks were starting to show; most people seemed to talk about the building being condemned, or the bouncy floors, which one exhibitor told us is as a result of too many columns being removed from the car parking floor below; none of which inspires any confidence. Rumours abound about the expo moving to Mandalay Bay, which would probably work quite well, though perhaps with a little scaling down. But this year’s event… There was buzz, there
Upbeat, buzzing, great new technology – shame it’s at Sands Expo.
was even a sense of, dare we say it, exuberance. We saw some really excellent technology, some of the most interesting stuff for a few years, and not just slots. In fact, there was a sense of fun about the place; it almost had a similar atmosphere to ICE.
One of G2E 2012’s major highlights was, for
us, SPIELO International’s new slot titles based on PopCap Games’ unbelievably popular online games Bejeweled, Plants vs. Zombies, and Zuma. Finally, a slot manufacturer has looked at what is being played for fun and tried to bring that identity and playability to the gaming floor. The cabinets look absolutely amazing, Plants vs. Zombies and Zuma in particular; the branding is spot-on, the colours and design are simply perfection. What SPIELO International has with these titles is brand recognition across a huge range of ages, but most notably with younger adult gamers who have grown up with free internet play. It gives them the potential to cross-promote to bricks and mortar casinos down the line with free-play options delivered to players via the casino’s own web-site, with play-triggered incentives to visit the actual casino… It’s the doorway to a new level of interactive gaming where slot players have an even more engaging mix of skill play and traditional slot play; the potential for these titles is absolutely huge, and we art Casino International can’t wait to see how they grow.
SPIELO International President and CEO
Walter Bugno said of the titles: “SPIELO International immediately recognized the strength behind PopCap’s casual games, which are known for their creativity, humor, and attention to detail. They’re played by billions of people worldwide, and appeal equally to both men and women. “We know our customers want compelling and entertaining content that will intrigue current players while also growing the player

base, so we’ve worked closely with PopCap to stay true to the spirit of their brands and create terrifically fun and engaging new slot gaming experiences.” Elsewhere on the gaming floor SPIELO
International has added to the incredibly successful Deal or No Deal family with Deal or No Deal Join ’N Play 2, which SPIELO International says is bigger, quicker and better, with guaranteed bonus hits every eight minutes and mystery bonuses triggering more often. It’s another superior piece of branding which will appeal to customers worldwide. On the systems side, SPIELO International launched Proactive Diagnostics, an application for the INTELLIGEN Central System, at the show, a product that uses predictive analysis to predict problems before they occur – and so offering cost savings and improved efficiency. Proactive Diagnostics predicts gaming machine and site controller faults before they happen, and its intuitive user interface means operators always have a clear and comprehensive picture of the health of their gaming operation.
Austrian company Amatic has been working with gaming cabinet maker Cole Kepro International in order to offer a Multi-Game product to operators in kit form, a really novel idea for visitors to G2E, and a valuable addition to the company’s near-20-year history of creating multigame products. Also on show were electronic terminals for
Turbo Card Roulette, which is being marketed by INAG. The Turbo Card Roulette is an ingenious alternative roulette solution. Mr. Thomas Engstberger, sales manager at
AMATIC Industries, said of the exhibition: “We are focusing on our great, in-depth knowledge and experience in Multi Game here in the United States. We have the right game for each and every player and thus we were very pleased from the feedback at the G2E.”
