rom what is said to be the world’s largest global component inven- tory, PEI Genesis develop engi- neered solutions that support the

military, industrial, medical, aerospace, transportation, and energy sectors. Jerry Griffin, facilities manager, PEI Genesis, says: “We have a good, long standing relationship with SSI Schaefer having previously worked with them to provide us with both single storey and two-tier Regal 3000 modular shelving systems. We were first made aware of the new SSI Schaefer Logimat following research done into buying a new vertical lift

machine to complement our existing operation. This was to provide us with a high performance picking solution for our small parts in limited space.” A key factor in the decision to pur- chase the Logimat machines was the rack and pinion lift mechanism – the advantage being there are no chains or belts, said to make it reliable and easy to maintain. The modular design also allowed SSI Schaefer to easily match the dimensions of an existing machine whilst maximising the available space for the second machine.

PEI Genesis now has a 6,000mm high Logimat machine to meet its

Spiral conveyor for high-throughput handling W

ith floor space in high throughput production processes frequently fully utilised and conveyor lines needing to run through multiple sections, there is often a need to con-

vey products not just over long distances but also to transport them up and down to cater for different line heights. The new small footprint MiniTec WF 3000 Spiral Conveyor now available from MiniTec

UK provides a lift height of up to three metres and also serves as a storage and production buffer for conveyed items – all within a very small base area. With a conveying distance of up to 50 metres and a floor space requirement of around three square metres, the WF 3000 Spiral Conveyor transports and elevates a constant flow of materials even under full load. The spiral conveyor consists of a modular conveyor track of up to 15 sections with a width of 240mm. The height distance between each section is just 200 mm, maintaining a low incline angle which helps to safeguard against load slippage as well as contributing to the overall compactness of the assembly. The variable conveying speed of five to 50 m/min allows for flexible regulation during material flow considering the transport load of up to 3,000N. Despite its considerable conveying capacity and large buffering potential, the outer dimensions of the unit maintain are just 1,600 x 1,600mm and an overall height of 4,500mm. MiniTec

original requirement, in addition to an 8,500mm high machine required for a totally separate application. A Logimat storage lift can be compared to an oversized drawer cabinet with two stacks of trays (one in the front and one in the rear). Between those stacks operates a lift, which extracts individual trays as required and delivers them to the service window.

The Logimat space-saving storage system from SSI Schaefer is suitable for small parts storage and offers a high order picking performance – vertical storage solutions are an ideal alterna- tive to store and order pick small parts in a compact and ergonomic way resulting in increased performance levels of up to 20 per cent.

Due to its compact design, the system not only provides reduced energy costs but also provides a 90 per cent storage space saving in compari- son to conventional static solutions. Its modular design allows the system to be fully adjustable to individual requirements providing numerous design options with the flexibility to extend in the future. With minimised order picking errors through its computer-controlled processes, SSI Schaefer’s LogiSoft soft- ware can also be combined or inte- grated into an existing warehouse management system with ease.
