Bagging fittings with Autobag
saves thousands of man-hours
B
agging fitting kits with an Autobag AB 255 has enabled one bathroom accessories manufacturer to increase capacity by 40%. The semi-automatic bagger replaces manual
bagging. Kits of screws and fixings are packed into bags pre-printed with fitting instructions, making the old instructions leaflet redundant. Labour previously required for packing has been redeployed more profitably.
The bagging operation
is now completed by a single operator, saving thousands of man hours. Capacity has increased four-fold and costs per unit have fallen by more than 60%.
It bagged labour savings with Autobag. What will you bag?™

-T-A Circuit Breakers, quality designer and manufacturer of a broad range of electro- mechanical and electronic products for circuit protection, has now obtained ATEX approval for special versions of its ESX10 and ESX10-T electronic overcurrent protection products for automation applications. Designed to reduce costly downtime and danger to personnel on production lines, the ESX10 can be plugged directly into an E-T-A Module 17plus power distribution socket which is mountable on a DIN/EN rail, while the ESX10-T is for direct rail mounting. The ATEX- approved 3G category of ESX10 and ESX10-T are intended for the use in Ex zone 2, making them particularly useful for applications in process control in the chemical, petroleum and gas industries. The compact E-T-A ESX10 and ESX10-T Electronic Circuit Breakers are just 12.5mm wide and both provide electronic overcurrent protection for 24V DC (and 12V DC ESX10-T only) control circuits with load currents from 0.5A to 12A. In the event of overload or a short circuit, the faulty load will be disconnected electronically by means of a mosfet in the output circuit of the protector.

cean Optics has added another option to its small-footprint near-infrared spectrometer line with the NIRQuest512-1.9. A high-resolution device with response from 1100-1900 nm, NIRQuest512-1.9 is well suited for applications ranging from
High Resolution Near- Infrared Spectrometer O
monitoring changes in food production and chemical processing to characterising lasers for semiconductor assembly and medical treatment. NIRQuest512-1.9 has a high-stability, 512-element Hamamatsu Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs)-array detector and is available with multiple grating and optical bench options for optimising performance between 1100-1900 nm. The standard NIRQuest512- 1.9 comes with a 150 lines/mm grating, 25 micron entrance slit and a non-fluorescing longpass filter that transmits >1000 nm. The filter helps to mitigate second-order
effects.NIRQuest512-1.9 has external hardware triggering functions that allow users to capture data when an external event occurs, or to trigger an event after data acquisition.

T3 Gas Tester Ensures Compliance T
enter 840
he new T3 Gas Tester ensures Crowcon’s Tetra:3 (T3) portable, multi-gas detector complies with relevant national/regional safety regulations and individual company requirements. The device feeds the T3’s sensors a known concentration of gas, a process known as ‘bumping’, to ensure the sensors are working correctly. The way it works is simple: when a T3 is inserted into the Gas Tester, the T3 automatically switches into ‘bump’ mode and either passes or fails. Once the test is complete the T3 is removed and the bump result is then accepted by the user and automatically logged in the T3. When the test has passed, the user is safe in the knowledge their detector is in good working order while, if it fails the bump, it informs the user that their instrument needs to be re-calibrated or serviced. All this is done without
requiring a power supply, as the T3 detector does all the work. The Gas Tester can bump for flammable, oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide sensors. Capable of testing up to four gases within just 60 seconds, it is a fast and simple way of ensuring all T3 detectors in a fleet are working correctly.

ABB drives to save £50,000 for plastic recycling company
A
plastic recycling company is set to save nearly £50,000 a year on energy costs following the fitting of an ABB industrial drive to one of its plastic extruders. Regain Polymers of Castleford, West Yorkshire, is one of the largest plastic recycling companies in the UK, recycling around 50,000 tonnes a year. The company turns waste plastic materials such as polypropylene, high density polyethylene and polystyrene into new pellets that are used to produce products such as water pipes and wheelie bins. The company’s production is based on seven extruder lines. As part of its programme to cut energy use and carbon emissions, it had identified one of its extruder lines as a prime candidate for improvement. This was based on a 400 kW DC motor and the company wanted to convert it to AC operation. As well as the expected energy savings, the conversion to AC would eliminate the need to replace the DC brushes every three months, saving £2,500 a year. Regain Polymers asked ABB Drives Alliance member Quantum Controls to investigate the extruder for possible conversion to AC. A data logger installed by Quantum established that the daytime electricity costs for the DC motor were £424.

Two-Wire Infrared Thermometer with Double Laser Sighting
or seamless integration of non-contact infrared temperature measurement technology in a wide
range of industrial applications, Optris introduces an efficient and high-performance solution with its two-wire optris CSlaser infrared thermometer. Different models are available for the precise non- contact temperature measurement of either non- metallic,
metallic or glass surfaces. The IR
thermometer features a one-piece design, integrating optics and electronics into a single compact and robust sensor. The industry common two-wire interface (4-20 mA current loop) enables the reliable transmission of data over long distances and easy adoption in production control systems (PLC). Compared to many pyrometers with single laser sighting, which only mark the middle but not the actual size of the measurement spot, the optris CSlaser IR thermometer includes an innovative double laser sighting to ensure precise sensor alignment and to prevent measurement errors.
