matting lights up the way

H

eronair matting, manufactured by Plastic Extruders Ltd, is now available with a 10cm photoluminescent centre strip which enables it to highlight an effective escape route in the event of light failure. Located along the centre of the matting, the integral strip only requires normal ambient light to energise but will still be illuminated up to approximately 10 hours to show people the way to safety.

The matting complies with the

requirements for safety signs when tested to DIN 67510 Part 1. Heronair is also certified DIN 51130 and assessed at R11 for slip resistance. Photoluminescent Heronair has a tubular construction insulating from cold floors. Its open grid construction dissipates spillages and allows debris to fall through the surface. The photoluminescent centre strip adds extra safety characteristics to this slip resistant and hardwearing safety matting. The all vinyl welded construction is also hygienic, easy to clean and shape. Photoluminescent Heronair can be loose-laid and will contour over rough or uneven surfaces. Its tubular PVC construction makes it particularly flexible and easy to cut on site to fit any shape and facilitates lifting for relocation or cleaning underneath.

ndustrial safety specialist Castell has developed a data- gathering and analysis device to maximise loading dock efficiency. Salvo™ DockMonitor combines the Salvo™ safety system, a data-gathering device and a live graphical interface running on a PC to display overall site performance or individual dock statistics.

Salvo™ DockMonitor I

The system’s report function

generates graphical reports on dock use, loading times, idle times, shift-to-shift comparison and maintenance. This information can then be exported to a range of standard file formats for further review and analysis. Salvo™ Dock Monitor has been designed to enable loading operations to run more efficiently by providing crucial information in real time. Increasing efficiency at the loading dock cuts costs in terms of reducing the number of loading docks required in a facility and ensuring assets are used as economically as possible. Modern logistics is a high-pressure industry. Increased fuel costs, congestion, tight delivery schedules and safety are all issues facing distributors and manufacturers in a highly competitive market. When capacity is tight, the cost of installing an additional loading dock can run into tens of thousands of pounds. Having staff and assets sat waiting for docks to become available during busy periods can also prove highly expensive.

Loading platform delivery for Domino's Pizza highlights Thorworld expertise

Thorworld Industries has delivered improved safety, warehouse

flexibility and operational efficiency to Domino’s Pizza, after the pizza delivery company purchased a loading platform for use at its storage warehouse in Milton Keynes. The secondary facility, based at Tilbrook, is used primarily to store and distribute double-stacked flat-packed pizza boxes. The need for a loading bay solution arose after Domino’s began bringing containers into this warehouse, which didn’t include a dedicated dock. This would make loading and unloading a potential Health & Safety issue, so Domino's decided to invest in a compact, mobile platform to act as a hub for warehouse activity. Researching alternatives on Google, Goods In Supervisor Mik Vallas opted for a loading platform over a ramp, citing the benefits of portability and multi-functionality. "We decided a ramp would not only be too cumbersome for storage, we were also concerned that the angle would be too steep for our on-site counter balanced fork lifts to convey double-stacked pallets. "In contrast, platforms can be quickly moved into position for safe loading and unloading. Their portability also allows us to use the platform for other functions," explains Mik Vallas.
