Products Lift trucks New fleet delivers maximum productivity and minimum downtime
WH Malcolm has recently taken delivery of a new fleet of Toyota Tonero gas-powered counterbalance forklift trucks at its warehousing and production facilities in Harlow. Working as efficiently as possible is at the heart of the
large glass manufacturing and warehousing facility, and as such requires a reliable fleet of trucks to ensure maximum productivity and minimum downtime. The latest additions include; seven Toyota Tonero gas
powered counterbalance forklifts ranging from 2.0 – 3.5 tonnes, one Toyota Traigo 48-volt electric counterbalance forklift, two BT Levio 2.0 tonne powered pallet trucks, as well as one Toyota Tracto 6.0 tonne sit-on tow tractor. With safety in the workplace being of paramount impor- tance to WH Malcolm, the Toyota Tonero trucks are equipped with Toyota’s Safety Plus Package which includes; a load weight indicator to help prevent over-load- ing which may lead to accidents, speed limiter to ensure
the driver stays within the pre-set limit, speed and accel- eration control to limit the drive speed with load at height, as well as additional options including transmission pro- tection, mini-levers, mirrors, pin-code access as well as specially designed double pallet handlers, all aiming
to increase productivity without compromising safety. Freddy Solomon, head of warehousing & strategy at the site says: “The reliability of the Toyota products and con- tract flexibility gave us the confidence to continue working with Toyota Material Handling UK.” Stuart Reilly, national account manager for Toyota says: “It is a testament to the build quality and reliability of the Toyota product that provides the team at WH Malcolm with the confidence to continue working with us in such a demanding and challenging environment.” Toyota is continuing to strengthen its relation with WH Malcolm at both its own warehousing sites as well as operating within customer manufacturing sites. Easy on-board control with minimal strain Heavy lifter for
narrow aisles Flexi Narrow Aisle has launched a 2.5 tonne addition to its Flexi range of articulated forklift trucks.
The Flexi AC 2.5T has been intro- duced to meet customer demand for a truck that can lift heavy loads of up to 2.5 tonnes and operate in the narrowest aisleways to maximize productivity and space utilisation.
The truck’s space efficiency is further enhanced thanks to Flexi Narrow Aisle’s decision not to use wheel arch extensions in the truck chassis design. When operating in narrow aisleways, a wheel arch is the part of a forklift that most frequently comes into contact with racking – causing rack, load or truck damage. But with the Flexi AC2.5T the rear wheels are integrated into the chassis so this risk eliminated.

More and more companies realise the direct connection between good ergonomics and good busi- ness. With the introduction of Ergologic, the Swedish truck manufacturer Atlet offers reach truck operators a new possibility to effectively control all on-board hydraulic functions with mini- mal strain. Ergologic comple- ments Atlet’s new Tergo range – described as the world’s most ergonomic reach trucks – and is a big leap towards improved ergonomics and increased opera- tional efficiency.
“Our customers expect greater uptime and efficiency from their trucks,” says Jan Callderyd, prod- uct manager at Atlet. “The opera- tors are the key for success, and
by providing them with well- designed ergonomic tools like the new Ergologic, operational effi- ciency can easily be increased and secured.” “We know drivers tend to use more hydraulic functions simulta- neously to increase their operational efficiency and safety. “Ergologic is designed to meet their demands and, together with the mini steering wheel and the innovative driver-centric design of our new Tergo reach trucks, this is definitely the new ergonomic benchmark in the truck industry,” concludes Callderyd. Truck is health and safety winner Crown, the electric lift truck spe-
cialist, won an international Universal Design Award for its WT 3000 Powered Pallet Truck Series at the Hannover Messe earlier this year. Crown’s WT 3000 Series was recognised for its increased focus on ergonomic features and the positive impact on health, safety and operator comfort such features provide. The FlexRide suspension system, developed and patented by Crown achieves an 80 per cent reduction in the impact of shock on operators repeatedly driving over dock boards. This means operators can drive over uneven surfaces without having to reduce

speed, thus increasing productiv- ity while minimising strain. The Crown WT 3000 pallet truck series includes models that can handle loads of up to 2,500kg. It also offers a choice between mechanical and elec- tronic steering, as well as four operator platform types. Ken Dufford, vice president of Europe at Crown in Munich says: “We are delighted the initial research we conducted has translated into a suspension system that brings real benefits to driver health and company productivity.”

The new Mitsubishi PREMIA ES pedes- trian power pallet truck has been awarded the prestigious red dot award: product design 2012 for its high-qual- ity, functional design. The hard-wearing pallet truck was, selected from a field of more than 4,500 products, representing 1,800 companies from 58 countries. Driven by the need for non-stop per- formance in the most challenging con- ditions, Mitsubishi designers paid spe- cial attention to durability and efficien- cy issues when developing the water- resistant 1.6 to 2.0 tonne pallet trucks. For outdoor operation in all weather, PREMIA ES features a sealed chassis which offers protection to key compo- nents against water, dirt, dust and other particles. The truck’s electronic system also uses waterproofed components, for maximum reliability.
Further pro-
tection against damage is offered by its shock-resistant oil-filled transmission and robust fork design. The low-maintenance design offers
further costs savings for truck owners by offering a choice of two perfor- mance modes – as standard – to enhance safety, energy efficiency and productivity. Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks T: 0845 3713048
