Scott Safety reveals its refreshed Zone range
A
ccording to HSE statistics about 1.7 million workers are thought to be exposed to noise above levels considered safe1 and around 21,000 individuals who worked in 2009/2010 suffered hearing problems as a result of their occupation2.
Unfortunately, when hearing
damage occurs it is often irreversible and with an abundance of good quality, high performance hearing protection readily available it is entirely avoidable. Knowing which type of hearing protection to choose for the correct application can be confusing, so Scott Safety has revamped and repositioned its Zone hearing range which provides a simple solution to help individuals make the right choice. With refreshed aesthetics and added comfort from a new concaved ear cup foam design, the Zone range has been extended and segmented to create application suitable products targeted for specific applications that maintain high attenuation performance to protect workers.
These changes were introduced as a
result of customer feedback and demonstrate Scott Safety’s commitment to providing products that meet customer needs. The Zone range offers customers a straightforward way to choose the correct hearing protection for the job, through a simple colour coding and number system.

ABB launches new guide to combustion optimisation
BB Measurement Products has published a new beginner's guide to combustion, providing a step-by-step process in achieving optimum combustion efficiency for any application using a combustion plant. Poor control of the combustion process can lead to damage of a plant, such as soot formation or flue duct corrosion. If left unresolved, these can result in increasing maintenance expenditure and a reduction in the plant life cycle. Combustion optimisation can help operators improve process efficiency, reduce environmental impact and maintenance requirements. Available free on request, the guide covers the key parameters that affect combustion performance, such as fuel flow rate, moisture content and composition; temperature; and pressure. It explains the importance of oxygen measurement in combustion and how this can be used to optimize the air/fuel ratio to reduce harmful emissions and improve efficiency. The guide also highlights how the latest generation of MCERTified Zirconia oxygen sensors (ATEX/ IECEx) can be deployed to measure oxygen concentration, together with the advantages of using in-situ analysers over portable devices.

Three-Step Industrial Skincare System
ccupational dermatitis is one of the most prevalent industrial diseases, accounting for 3% of all sickness absence certified to occupational illnesses in the UK[i]. The Health & Safety Executive estimates that there are 40,000 new dermatitis cases each year – the majority of these caused or made worse by work[ii]. Some of the most common causes of occupational dermatitis include working in wet or humid environments, chemicals, oils, greases and bleaches, continuous washing and the wearing of liquid proof gloves that prevent the skin from breathing. These risks can be found in a wide range of work places and is a risk that should be correctly managed. To help manage the risks of occupational dermatitis, Arco, the UK’s leading safety company, has launched the Arco Three-Step Industrial Skincare System to help defend the skin from occupational skin disorders. Each of the three steps in the system plays a vital role in hand protection and are designed to work together to keep hands protected, clean and healthy and form part of the assessment needs for COSHH. The skincare range is also suitable for 85% of industrial cases, from mechanics working with heavy machinery to hairdressers working with hair dyes and chemicals.
