Products & applications Compressed air Compressors meet the demand for optimum performance

CompAir has launched a brand new range of fixed and regulat- ed-speed rotary screw compressors to complete and enhance its offering between 22kW and 30kW. Developed in direct response to market requirements, the new L23-L29 compressors introduce a number of new compressor sizes to the CompAir range. This means that customers can now select the optimum compressor size for their application, improving installation efficiency and thereby reducing energy consumption and cost of ownership. Gerd Moosman, oil lubricated screw product manager, says:

“Optimising compressor size is important to today’s energy-con- scious manufacturers. Since 2005, average European electricity costs have risen by more than 60 per cent, so our customers are constantly looking for new ways to reduce their energy con- sumption. They are well aware that running a compressor that is oversized for the application will lead to higher energy bills. “By listening to the market, we found that there was a real need to develop a new range of units between 22 and 30 kW to help

meet demand in this area. At the same time, customers wanted the performance, efficiency and low ownership costs that they have come to rely on from our proven L series, oil-injected tech- nology, with a choice of units from as little as 2.2kW to 250kW. In addition, the compressors have been designed with a small, compact footprint, enabling easier installation in to existing applications.”

With as much as 80 per cent of a compressor’s cost of owner- ship being the electricity used to power it, operators need to do all they can to reduce consumption. The new L23 to L29 range therefore offers a number of features designed to improve ener- gy efficiency, without compromising on performance including fixed and regulated speed, premium efficiency air end and elec- tric motor, seamless control They can be tailored to the application and come with Compair’s extended warranty provided free of charge up to 44,000 hours or six years.

Solutions to help meet food industry standards Quality compressed

Beko Technologies provides measuring equipment which can measure flow, pressure, pressue dew point, leakage and one that is not so easy or common, remaining oil vapour content.

This process is said ot aid the food/beverage industry to ensure it is meeting the high quality standards set either internally or by the customer or a regulatory body such as the British Compressed Air Society/British Retail Consortium Code of Practice. Most companies do not mea-

Combination transmitter

Vaisala’s new transmitter combines dewpoint and pressure measurement in compressed air applications. The DPT146 measures dewpoint and

pressure simultaneously allowing for real-time pressure compensations for calculations of ppm or atmospheric dewpoint. This is said to make data reli- able and accurate, and consequently, enables more informative decision making and timely corrective actions. The DPT146 complements Vaisala's

broad offering for compressed air mon- itoring. The new transmitter brings together Vaisala's technological exper- tise in sensor-technology development by combining two sensor technologies - the Vaisala DRYCAP and Vaisala BAROCAP - said to have been proven accurate and stable in a variety of dew- point and pressure measure. sure the oil vapour content for two rea- sons. First is that many companies have invested in oil free compres- sors and believe that they have nothing to fear and second that they are not aware equipment to make

this measurement in situ is avail- able at a reasonable cost. Suffice it to say that a 100 per cent oil free compressor will not add to hydrocarbon content in the air but equally will not remove any present in the ambient inlet air.

To be sure about the quality of compressed air, it is important to measure the dew point and the remaining oil vapour content. Beko has two solutions. The METPOINT OCV for oil vapour and the METPOINT DPM. There is a second option using a Mobile Measuring Station where the cus- tomer can have the equipment brought to site by a Beko techni- cian, the meters installed and left for a specified period. The mobile service is offered direct in the UK and in Ireland. Beko Technologies T: 01527 575778 beko-technologies.co.uk Enter 318

Partnership for compressor firm Rotary vane compressor

manufacturer Mattei has formed a partnership with Coelmo, Italian pro- ducer of generating sets. The partnership will see Mattei working in conjunction with Coelmo to promote generators within the UK, and will provide customers with access to a comprehensive range of power generation equip- ment. Coelmo’s product range complements Mattei’s rotary vane compressors, as well as the gener- ator and cogeneration set solu- tions already offered by Mattei’s energy division.

Coelmo is a specialist in the uninterruptible electrical power sector, and it has a presence in more than 35 countries.

Andy Jones, general manager at Mattei, says: “Coelmo’s busi-

air for bio-cultivation Bio-control product manufacturer Becker Underwood has installed Atlas Copco ZS low-pressure, oil-free blower technology at its manufacturing facility in Littlehampton, Sussex, to guarantee the essential supply of high quality, oil and contaminant-free compressed air required for its bio-cultivation processes. Becker Underwood’s bio-control

ness really dove- tails with our own, and there are some striking synergies. Just as Mattei has invested in and made great strides in rotary vane compressor

technology, Coelmo’s investment in technological innovation has brought its energy systems to the very top of electromechanical and electronic production. “The partnership means we can now offer our customers an increased range of technologi- cally advanced diesel and gas generating sets – or even a solu- tion that incorporates a renew- able technology.” Mattei T: 01789 450577 www.mattei.co.uk Enter 320

product portfolio covers a range of applications within the commercial and domestic horticultural sectors and it is one of the world’s leading producers of nematodes – worm-like microscopic organisms that attack and control spe- cific horticultural pests then reproduce thus continuing the protection cycle. The bio-cultivation process is reliant upon a continuous supply of oil-free, filtered and sterile air to aerate the con- tents of three 25,000 litre fermenters. If the air supply is interrupted an entire batch of nematode organisms can per- ish within a few hours. A fully integrated, oil-free, rotary

screw displacement blower with vari- able speed drive and separate TD 650 aftercooler from Atlas Copco were installed. The installation has met all Becker Underwood’s equipment crite- ria: a blower that supplies totally oil- free compressed air, reduces energy costs, and came with a complete prod- uct support service.
