RIGHT: Delaware & Hudson’s PA’s and a cou- ple of leased E8’s from Erie Lackawanna share the Colonie, N.Y., shop on April 9, 1971. The E-units were needed to provide steam heat on the D&H’s trains during the last days before Amtrak’s start-up on May 1. Once an active shop for the D&H, the facility was closed upon the railroad’s acquisition by Guilford Transportation Industries.
