KANSAS CITY HAS ALWAYS BEEN one of those cities that I have always wanted to visit. We have had a few articles on the rail center in R&R in recent years, starting with “Kansas City Today” by Carl Graves and Wayne Kuchinsky back in June 2001 (has it really been over 11 years since we ran that article?). More recently, Carl has penned two more features on Kansas City, with sto- ries on short line Kansas City Terminal and train watching at Union Station in the Jan- uary 2011 and March 2012 issues, respec- tively. Rapids, Iowa, putting me in the midwest in June, I decided to tack on a week of vacation in front of the event and finally hit Kansas City. After all, that only put me a little fur- ther west and south of where I needed to be
