America’s News Page

Bungled the Case,” June). I don’t always agree with his politics, but he is always a noble gentleman. susan daniels Chardon, Ohio

MARIJUANA GROWHOUSES I support the legalization of marijuana, as well as the freedom of choice (“Homegrown Crime Spree,” July). God himself will not force his will on us, and government should not have the right to legislate morality and the market place.

philip j. fortier Visalia, Calif.

SWING STATE OF COLORADO The Newsmax analysis of Colorado’s swing state status is interesting and informative (“Latino Vote Critical to Winning Colorado,” June). george a. rivera Pueblo, Colo.

CLOSING MILITARY BASES Of course Obama is reducing our military protection (“Wave of U.S. Base Closings ‘Inevitable,’” July). This is just part of his plan to take down America. When will Americans get enough of him and vote him out of offi ce?

glenda smith Dallas, Texas

DETROIT NO CHARITY CASE Regarding the article, “Obama, Bush Share Credit for General Motors’ Comeback,” in the June issue, I fi nd General Motors Chairman Daniel Akerson’s likening taxpayer support for Detroit and the auto industry to aiding victims of natural disasters to be askew. Better would be to compare the

auto bailout to giving bailout monies to people who just might have a hurricane or tornado hit their area. During natural disasters, many donations from charitable agencies and individuals are provided in addition to government aid. How much charitable help did

Detroit receive in addition to the bailout monies? I would venture none, which leads me to believe the people did not view the auto industry as a charity case.

dave dahlke Port Orchard, Wash.

NO REPERCUSSIONS FOR DEMS If President Richard Nixon had been a Democrat instead of a Republican, we never would have heard of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein (“Recalling Nixon: A Great Peacemaker’s Sad End,” May). leo kuschnereit Midwest City, Calif.
